David, the way Papy does those movies at times(from personal knowledge)
leaves a bit to be desired. You have to remember that artists can alter
things
to look very much different from the finished products. The screen shots you
will see released from time to time are nothing more than artists renderings
and aren't actually captured from the game. The early beta I saw that was
close
to the GPL version in terms of physics and this was from before N3 was
released looked good but framed very badly on a high powered system at
that time. It was almost unplayable and reminded me of GP2 when it first
came out in terms of system requirements. This was when I started ***ing
it was time for a overhaul of their game engine, which everyone roundly
trashed me. There are still physics bugs in the game going back to the
original
Indy Car and they have never been addressed. Believe me I tried to get these
things
changed. I and others probably ***ed too much and thats why I don't beta
test
for them anymore. They don't take critiquing very well. And its not always
the
fault of the people whose names at Papy that we recognize, bean counting
bozos
is the name that comes to mind.
I remember seeing screen shots of GPL being released and laughing, as
they were
facsimiles of artists rendering I saw when I was in Boston at Papyrus. I
could tell
some interesting stories of things I heard and saw but I won't to protect
the few people
that are left from those days. The days, I was there they had their first
working copy of
the N2 beta and I wasn't even interested. We spent all our time looking at
the artists
work on the then unannounced GPL! It took our breath away! N2 beta who
cares! :-)
I don't know whether that incident played any role in them getting rid of
their open
office concept because they didn't let too many outsiders go through at that
time. The
next person I knew that took the tour got to see only very limited scripted
pieces of
info as the office look had changed completely.
I could go on but I won't bore you. I will ask to see the game again and
take a little
more interest this time. I will give you details but I won't post them.
If you think I'm anti Papy your are wrong! I would love nothing better
than to see a
state of the art N4 released but after seeing first hand what goes on behind
scenes and
how they have treated their best employees and how few of them still work
there. It
saddens me! I sit and think how far ahead of their time Papyrus was all
those years ago and
how now the big shots drive their Ferrari's around the race track and tell
the employees
budget restrictions don't allow them to spend the time correcting bugs.
Ironic! I guess I
should be happy that they continue to release anything at all but like some
sports teams
they only play hard enough to win not blow away the competition.
