You would count on Papy going backwards over the last year?

Actually all I expect is what I saw in the movie that was released over a
year ago - plus any additional features such as Intellivibe and RS Shifter
support that are new since then (and now part of N3).  If what you see is so
much different than that then what we saw then I would be very dissappointed
indeed.

Hmmm ...  interesting thread here.  Say, btw, who are these beta testers,
considering Papyrus hasn't sent anything out to beta testers.

<disclaimer> Include all standard disclaimers ... My opnions are my own,  I
just want to clear stuff up and reduce and possible FUD.  I'm not implying
anything about anything.

David, the way Papy does those movies at times(from personal knowledge)
leaves a bit to be desired. You have to remember that artists can alter
things
to look very much different from the finished products. The screen shots you
will see released from time to time are nothing more than artists renderings
and aren't actually captured from the game. The early beta I saw that was
close
to the GPL version in terms of physics and this was from before N3 was
released looked good but framed very badly on a high powered system at
that time. It was almost unplayable and reminded me of GP2 when it first
came out in terms of system requirements. This was when I started ***ing
it was time for a overhaul of their game engine, which everyone roundly
trashed me. There are still physics bugs in the game going back to the
original
Indy Car and they have never been addressed. Believe me I tried to get these
things
changed. I and others probably ***ed too much and thats why I don't beta
test
for them anymore. They don't take critiquing very well. And its not always
the
fault of the people whose names at Papy that we recognize, bean counting
bozos
is the name that comes to mind.
I remember seeing screen shots of GPL being released and laughing, as
they were
facsimiles of artists rendering I saw when I was in Boston at Papyrus. I
could tell
some interesting stories of things I heard and saw but I won't to protect
the few people
that are left from those days. The days, I was there they had their first
working copy of
the N2 beta and I wasn't even interested. We spent all our time looking at
the artists
work on the then unannounced GPL! It took our breath away! N2 beta who
cares! :-)
I don't know whether that incident played any role in them getting rid of
their open
office concept because they didn't let too many outsiders go through at that
time. The
next person I knew that took the tour got to see only very limited scripted
pieces of
info as the office look had changed completely.
I could go on but I won't bore you. I will ask to see the game again and
take a little
more interest this time. I will give you details but I won't post them.
If you think I'm anti Papy your are wrong! I would love nothing better
than to see a
state of the art N4 released but after seeing first hand what goes on behind
scenes and
how they have treated their best employees and how few of them still work
there. It
saddens me! I sit and think how far ahead of their time Papyrus was all
those years ago and
how now the big shots drive their Ferrari's around the race track and tell
the employees
budget restrictions don't allow them to spend the time correcting bugs.
Ironic! I guess I
should be happy that they continue to release anything at all but like some
sports teams
they only play hard enough to win not blow away the competition.

Joel, they carry two levels of beta testers! Or at least they used to!
When you are in with in crowd you get all kinds of nice little perks!
Been there done that! If you use enough "Chap Stick" you could be one
too! :-) If you don't know who the inner circle are you haven't been
around long enough if you are a beta tester or you know one!

Hmm, Joel works at Papy.  Don't you think he might just know if any builds
have been sent out.

Thats hilarious then! Must be Papy employees leaking out their
betas then! If i'm blowing smoke(my words) why has Papy emailed
me! :-) Oh, well we shall see!  But I suspect the inner circle crowd
have taken some heat for the leaks. Lets call them unofficial betas
if that would make Joel happy.
Joel, say hi to Matson for me, Charlie is gone but not forgotten!

Perhaps Papy is going to follow the ID model and make N4 online only?
(don't ya just love starting rumours?)  I want online users to be my pit
crew, and I want native rendition support hahahaha really I just want
the letter Q removed from the alphabit.

Cripes, I hope not.... that would be about right though - finally get
everything right and leave out the single-drive... I absolutely love
the head-to-head racing too (although I haven't been able to do any
serious races since N11111! - that was for Sierra (and it's not my
***y connection..) ) but I also like to get into a full, drawn out
season at my leisure too...

I would hate to be answering the phones on release day if they did
make it online-only... <G>

Actually, that's not a joke Dave, Jan Kohl got a bit of inside info the
other day from someone at Papy, and they don't think they can go much
further with the AI, and since noone is happy with the state of the AI
and 90% of the customers will mostly play it online anyway, they have
decided to drop the AI in favor of a much improved online code....warp
free racing with up to 43 cars, and you can host on 28.8 modem too, way
cool

Wow, where did you get that 90% number? Is that just optimism of a
online
racer?
