Problem with F1RS and latest drivers from Orchid?

by ga.. » Fri, 30 Jan 1998 04:00:00

Hi there everyone.

First I'd like to say that F1RS is one hell of a good program (if you ignore a
few niggling details). GP2 was excellent, but this is now the boss IMHO.

Anyway, my question.
Is there a compatibilty problem with F1RS and the latest Orchid 3DFX drivers?
The drivers are dated Dec 1997 in the properties dialog box. They are referred
to as version 3 drivers by Orchid.
When I installed these drivers, F1RS refused to accept that there was a 3DFX
card installed on my machine (other stuff worked with them). As soon as I went
back to the older version 2 drivers (dated June 1997) its alright again, and
could run the game.

Has anyone else with a Orchid 3DFX vard had this problem or is it just my
machine?
The game runs fast enough as it is, but I would like to have the latest drivers
on there, and am wondering if UbiSoft know about this if it has happened to other
people.

BTW, I've got the English version of the game, if thats any help.

Are you playing Toca Touring Car on the same machine ? I have the exact same
problem and I have to re-install F1RS after playing Toca. Its a strange
problem. When Toca is not installed, I can play F1RS with no problems.

I use the latest patches and Orchid drivers..

I have TOCA installed, but I don't think thats it. I wasn't playing TOCA at all

who informed me that there was a problem with the actual setup program that
came with the orchid drivers, that has now been fixed.

My copy of the drivers came on a PC Gamer(UK) cover CD so were probably the ones
with the dodgy install.

This chap fixed the problem by manually copying the glide.dll and another file
(he cant remember which) over, since this is what the dodgy install didn't.

With regards to TOCA, um, I'll have a look to see if that is affecting just you
or to see if it is the drivers.

These are the 2 files which you need to copy to your Windows\System
directory. They seem not to get copied accross during installation. Once
they are in place the card should be detected properly.

glide.dll
 sst1init.dll

Sorry if this has already been answered but I haven't been around for a few
days.
