went black
I heard my engine running and tried to turn off the PC but I think I heard a
crash.
The car was damaged in the back end when I logged back in so I assume it
was in
a wreck.
Tough race today.
Pete
Pete
It was a spectacular wreck. :)
Can I just say I messed up on this one? -There is a, IMO, worrying tendency
to blame the game for one's ineptitude in either operating or controlling
the car (engine and gearbox failures don't come out of the blue when
speedshifting, e.g.).
While I didn't bring out a yellow nor disadvantage anybody and I don't think
the way I clipped the wall should have resulted in engine damage, *I* forced
the car down on the low line and didn't catch the resulting wobble.
Therefore *I* deserve what happened to me and am kicking myself for it.
As we don't tally points I didn't consider it worth the risk (to other
drivers) to nurse a car that was at least 10mph down on top speed home, so I
quit.
Jan.
=---
I gave it to much throttle once things got moving again and slid sideways,
and I think it was John Simmons who bumped me. It was very light contact. My
spotter immediately said something about engine damage.
Now here is the funny part. I ran the rest of the race with no problems at
all (other than a computer crash), and as near as I can tell, my car was no
slower.
Something is definitely wrong here.

> It was a spectacular wreck. :)
For the second week in a row I screwed up in a race I had every chance of
winning by pitting at the wrong time and putting myself deep in the pack of
trouble. Oh, well :)
I was fourth today and the three cars ahead of me pitted. I didn't
understand it since we had only gone about 4 laps since the last pit, but
with Texas being so *** Tars I decided to go with the flow. It's not
good to be out of sync there.
After I was on Pit Road I realized that the three cars ahead that pitted
were the three cars that did NOT pit the last yellow.
Oh well again :)
It was all downhill from there. On that restart I mysteriously lost 3rd
gear without warning. Oddly enough, before the restart I had BEEN in 3rd
gear and had just downshifted to 2nd the final corner before the restart.
And I am not 100% positively convinced that the Random damage does not take
abuse, driving style, setup or anything else into accord. I know this
because I was purposely babying the transmission the whole race. I was very
cautious against power-shifting, and I was even letting up slightly prior to
shifts so they were silky smooth and easy on the transmission.
Papy has GOT to fix this. It's ridiculous. One look at the RASCAR stats
tells the story. I've never seen so many blown engines, dropped valves,
broken headers (?) etc... in any version of Nascar Racing. Ever.
I tell ya, I fear the Road Courses big time. I am leaning very heavily
towards running the automatic transmission because of this design flaw.
Anyway, after luckily not getting run over on the restart, I was totally
plummeted into the outside wall by someone. In the process of getting
things together, and trying to find a gear that was actually working, I got
smooshed in the rear by another car.
Then I lost a lap because there was mass confusion up front and no one would
get moving. Folks, we really got to get our act together on yellow laps.
Please close up the damned field! Especially on short tracks, it is killing
people that have to pit for damage repairs.
After the next restart about 2 laps later the whole field came to a
standstill in the square-oval and before I had time to react (not that there
was really anywhere to go), I smooshed someone in the rear and that was the
end of my motor.
Maybe next week :)

Larry
I was absolutely AVOIDING speed-shifting and I still lost 3rd gear for no
reason.
It came as a suprise as I didn't know it until I tried to go to 3rd on the
restart.
The funny thing is, I was just in 3rd gear, mellowing along, and very easily
downshifted into 2nd in turn 4 just before the restart. Then it wasn't
there all of a sudden.
The random damage model has GOT to go. It's totally random is is not taking
reality into consideration whatsoever.
Larry
On the 2nd green lap following the 1st caution( ~ lap 5-6), my motor
mysteriously blew up going into T1, there were no missed shifts, nor any speed
shifting, or over-revving, to explain this. Not trying to make any excuses,
Jan, but because of my schedule for work, I'm not able to make very many of
these Sat races, & was a little miffed when caught out by an apparent random
"header" failure. (got an incident caused for it , too... what's up w/ that?)
But... After calming down & thinking about it, I remembered that I HAD
downshifted too early & over-revved during the "Happy Hour", when pitting.
:o/
You don't suppose Papy has programmed in the "1 engine rule", & damage(or wear
& tear) is cumulative through qual, warm-up, & race? And if so, why no option
to start at the rear w/ a new engine?
Food for thought ;o)
-Brian
I plopped myself down in the chair and my foot stabbed the gas pedal
while I was sitting there in neutral. The motor revved pretty high
and was banging against the rev limiter, and I thought I was gonna
lose the motor yet again. However, it managed to hold itself
together and I finished the race.
I agree with Larry, the random damage is truly too random, and it
doesn't appear to take enough actual abuse or race conditions into
account.
Someone said they were going to use automatic *** on the road
courses, but that won't help. Someone was using automatic *** in
one of the prior races and still lost the ***.
Two things:
1 - you don't know what someone else's spotter is telling them to do. They may
be getting the message to stay behind a car that's behind *you*...
2 - people may be more cautious so that they don't get a black flag for passing
someone that's pitting. Given the number of flags that have happened, I can't
say that I blame them...

I haven't yet got the game so I'm just plain guessing of course, but
there were some pit crew ratings in nr2002, though nothing like that.
More to do with their speed during pit-stops.
