GP2 sold at Silverstone - Qualifying ??

by J Dix » Sat, 13 Jul 1996 04:00:00

Dear all

We know that GP2 will be out in retail outlets on JULY 19th,
(confirmed to me by two reliable suppliers, and seeming to be the
overall opinion of other articles), but the teaser is that it seems to
on sale at Silverstone this weekend.  I am going to be in that area
this weekend and I know that there are still tickets left for
qualifying.  Does anybody know if it will be on sale on Saturday
qualifying.  It would be great to see Hill get pole, Schumachers car
fall in pieces and go home with F1GP2.

Please let me know.

P.S.  How far would Senna be off his 6th championship now if still
alive !

You would want to hope so if you want Hill to win.

It would certainly have put Hill's "skills" into perspective.

Still afraid of Schumacher that you want his car to fall in pieces? This
proves to me that Damon Hill is only the next worldchampion because of
his Williams-Renault, not because of his own driving-skills.

Aye Aye. All those in favor of Erik's intelligent words give this guy a
hand. Erik, you are absolutely right; Shumacher is Brilliant. Give
Villeneuve another year in the F1 circus and he will be beating the pants
of Hill (if Williams doesn't get rid of him by then). Hill is a good
driver, he just isn't in the same class as the top drivers in F1.

Sorry for getting of topic, but I couldn't resist.

Waiting Anxiously for GP2,
Paul

Let's be fair to Damon, okay? The Williams-Renault may well be the
supreme car this season, but that is not why DH is winning the
championship. To say that it is would be the same as saying that I could
drive the car and win the championship. Unlikely to say the least. I am
prepared to concede that MS is the better driver, but that does not
imply that DH is talentless. On the contrary, he is a tremendously
skilled driver. The truth be known, all of them are to a greater or
lesser degree, including Pedro Diniz! DH is winning the championship
through a combination of tremendous driving skill _and_ superior
engineering. If it was just the car, why the 25 point lead over JVi?

In conclusion, GO DAMON!!!

...uh, uh, uh!  Jacques is on the provisional pole by .7 secs, (yes!) so you
probably won't get to see the first item on your wish list come true...

gee, could the fact that Jacques is a rookie and has never even seen most of
these circuits have anything to do with it???  Let's put out thinking caps on
for that one... ;-)

It's lucky for Damon Hill that Frank Williams doesn't know as much about
F1 as you do isn't it? I mean if Frank knew anything at all he would
sack Damon, save six million pounds and get a better driver to win the
World Championship for him. Just as well he can't see how ***his
number one driver is.

Lucky escape for Damon eh?

Sometimes I despair.......

Was that the session where Hill was running on WET tyres in order to
save as many sets for the race and qualifying as possible....?  The
track was dusty and no good for setting times, so Hill ran on wets. He
was still fastest....

This was in the AM, I never saw the afternoon times...?

Cheers!

Yes, you mean: I want to see Hill getting the pole, and Schumy (with the
Ferrari in pieces) going home with GP2...
Yes, it could be.

Yes, you're probably right. It was not my intention to rubbish JVi at
all, I was just making the point that you can't say a driver does well
simply due to having the best car. It is the symbiosis of car _and_
driver that makes race winners. I think JVi has done a superb job so far
this season, and I have the greatest respect for him. Qualifying today
at Silverstone showed him again to be snapping at Damon's heels for all
he was worth. The point I was driving at (in response to the earlier
article) was that if it was all down to the car, DH would not have a 25
point lead over his team-mate, whoever they were.

Anyway, this is all a bit off topic, so I'll knock it on the head now.
Let's just look forward to an exciting race tomorrow.

Sorry to make you think that DH has no driving-skills at all. What I was
trying to say, is that if Jean Alesi, Gerhard Berger, Rubens
Barrichello or Mikka Hakinnen were driving the Williams, the also would
be in lead of the Championship.

Jacques had the top PRACTICE time Friday.  F-1, unlike IndyCar, only has one
qualifying session (on Saturday).
