exactly at the point you do, that might still end up with them running
into you. (Because distance between cars for a given time differential
becomes less as speed becomes less). They need to know to brake
earlier, or move to the side, if someone is ahead of them. (And moving
to the inside is tricky because their nose might get clipped as you
turn in, or you might move to the inside soon to block--in fact in real
racing practice a leader might use an artificial inside blocking line,
leaving the follower the outside line with extra braking room).
Now, possibly, they know when to brake when following an "ideal braker"
for the corner, and you are actually braking too soon. But really,
that sounds unlikely, it would be difficult for them to calculate.
They'd have to calculate the projected position of the "ideal braker",
and then calculate the braking they should use to avoid it. (And, I'm
sure you've rear-ended AI drivers in a similar situation, too).
Braking when they see or know you brake might be sufficient, or it
might not, depending upon the exact situation.
Hmm. I guess if they slow down more quickly, my they could be braking
for an "ideal brakeer", and we all make sense. They could be assuming
you will slow down as quickly as they do.
Does this happen when you take the inside or outside line? If the
inside, perhaps if you took the outside they will go inside you
(even if they pass, well, that could be better than an accident).
If the outside, then perhaps if you took an artificial inside line
they would use the extra room on the outside.
Of course, at the start there are probably usually at least tbehind you, so there will be one to run into you no matter which line
you take. 8-)
Maybe your best bet is to try and qualify last. 8-)
Of course, I've never actually raced this simulator, I'm just curious
about how the cars do behave.
