My racing ***ion started with Night Driver for the Atari 2600 around
1980. Then in the mid 90's I got to play Nascar Racing with a steering wheel
and pedals on a 486. I was then hooked and made my first computer purchase
for the soul reason to play Nascar Racing. I have every racing sim Papy has
made and every computer upgrade has been based on Papy sims. Remember the
Sierra Screamin 3d Rendition video card and how about those HUGE phone bills
on Hawaii :) Grand Prix Legends physics model was nothing short of a
miracle. And each new Nascar edition has improved when I didn't think they
could get any better. After trying out EA's version of Nascar racing I
realised that Papy's physics model CAN'T  be alowed to die. It needs to be
carried on be any means necessary. I as one can't save Papy's future but I
will do everything I can to help it live on. I will be getting Nascar Racing
2003 Season today and will be buying extra copies for friends and family as
I can afford them. I will intruduce sim racing to as many people as I can. I
realise EA has tons more money and Nascar support but when it comes to
simulating a race car they aren't but a pimple on Papy's butt. Please don't
let this be the last Papy PC sim. It would be a huge step back in sim
racings evolution. Thanks Papy for all the years of racing and hopefully
there will be more.

My thoughts exactly.  I remember watching a piece during the (89?) Indy
500 about a guy who worked at the track "breaking" the track record using
Indy 500 the simulation.  They said the game was a great simulation with
great set-up options.  They then showed this guy drinking a bottle of milk
in victory lane.  That was all I needed to see.  Even though I didn't own a
computer at the time, I went out and bought Indy 500 the simulation and went
to a buddy's place to use his 286 to play.  I was hooked, and I've owned
every Papy sim since and enjoyed them all.

PS   While I can't find the disk right now If I remember correctly,
wasn't Indy 500 the simulation made by Papy but distributed by Electronic
Arts?

Mine was Atari's sit-down Arcade racers called Hard Drivin and Hard Racin,
which I still say are the two most realistic simulators I've ever seen.

Correct.  And yes, the program did come out in 1989.  I just looked at the box
the other day for some reason...<g>

Your story sounds almost identical to mine. It was a 30 minute profile
of Emmo Fittipaldi, and they showed this 10 second clip of him using a
game called Indy 500 the Simulation to practice with. Went out the
next day to buy my first 486 machine, and the rest is history.

Thank you Papy for the great sims. But more importantly, thanks for
listening to your hard core fans, and for your loyal support of
multiplayer all these years. You've changed many of our lives in ways
we can't begin to list here.
