SCGT Sardian track

by Bill Jone » Sat, 25 Sep 1999 04:00:00

In career mode of Sports Car GT, I was able to fairly easily set the fastest
qualifying lap and win the opening race at the Chatham track without
touching the setup on the BMW M3 I was using (GTQ class).  So then onto the
Sardian track after upgrading the tires and manifolds with my winnings...

The Sardian track is not so easy to conquer.  After practicing for an hour
or so, the bext lap I could muster was a little over 1:07.  Turns out this
qualifies me last among 8 racers, with the leader qualifying at just over
1:05.  Do I need to tweak the car setup in the garage to turn those times,
or do I jutst need more practice?

Bill,

My best GTQ time at Sardian Park is 51:89 in a slightly modified GTQ 911 (I've
never raced the M3) so you should be able to lap at a minute flat without
breaking a sweat.  Sounds like you might be overdriving the course a bit too
much.  Slow for the entrances to the turns more and come squirting out the other
side faster.  Exit speed rules here.

I had the EXACT same problem, and made almost the EXACT same post a while
back.  Sardian is all about setup, I think.  After tuning the setup and
turning lots of laps to find the braking points, turn-in points, etc., I
finally got down to the 1:01 range.  Also FWIW, I think I changed from the
M3 to a 911.  I'm a BMW fan, so this pained me, and the loaded Bimmer blows
the doors AND fenders off the 911, but it's easier to upgrade the 911 more
quickly, which helps at Sardian.  A win at Chatham will give you the cash to
make a 911 MUCH more competitive (at the lower levels, anyway) than a
comparable M3.  This was what I discovered, anyway.

Hope this helps a bit.

Man, I must be beyond all hope as a driver then!  Like I said, in career
mode with the GTQ BMW M3, the best lap I could get in practice was over
1:07.  After reading your post, I went into Quick Race mode, used the cheats
to get any car I wanted, and bought a GT2 BMW M3 (400 HP compared to 280 HP
for the GTQ).  The best lap I could get with that car was around 1:02.  Is
anyone else driving laps as fast as Bob is?

How could I ever win the Chatham race so relatively easily, and be this bad
on the Sardian track?  Does this make sense?

Hmm.  I thought Sardian was easy, at least in GTQ mode.  I don't remember my

I like you burned up Chatham in my BMW M3 only to find that I suck at
Sardian. I have worked for hours at Sardiana and finally did a 1:00,
or so and got the track record, but I was never able to do it again. I
am doing consistent 1:02s, but that still is not fast enough for
anything better than a last place qualify. I have also found the
Porsche to be a little better at this track. I have switched to the
BMW and I think I like its overall driving better, but when the tires
get worn it likes to swing.
