F1RS after 1 day

Well, I finally could wait no longer for F1RS to come out here in the
USA, after having stopped by two Electronic Boutiques last week due to
the false reports of a US release, I decided the wait was no longer worth it
and I ordered it direct from Ubisoft this week.

I thought I would post a bit of info for the other unlucky Yanks and
Canadians who like me have been going out of our minds waiting for this
title to make it's way across the pond.

So far after one day all I can say is WOW!

Very nice looks, and I really really like the driving model.
I am a long time auto sim enthusiast, and previously my favorite
driving model was GP2's excellent feel, except for it's scripted spins.

F1RS feels really nice at least to me, I'm driving with all the aids
turned off, using a T2, and with the steering sensitivity turned up to 100%.

With this combination, I can feel the back end coming loose and apply enough
counter-steering to correct most of the time as well as trail brake into the
corners scrubbing just enough speed to make the turn.

The computer AI so far seems pretty decent, and the graphics look outstanding.
So far the only thing that stands out as inferior to GP2 is the sounds, which
do the job nicely but don't sound as realistic as GP2, maybe people will be
able to come out with better versions that can be imported into it.

I have never driven the tracks in real life, so I haven't noticed the
track deficiencies that some have pointed out here, personally I am amazed
at how playable and beautiful racing at Monaco is on my P200 3dfx machine
it really blows away GP2 on this track. I'm having a blast practicing
Melborne in preparation for the season start on March 8.

Anyhow I gotta get back to racing, but I am really impressed at the
wonderful job Ubisoft has done on their first try at an F1 sim, really
makes the braindead CPR pale in comparison as a first effort.

PS. pretty good deal too. I called 1-800-UBI-SOFT on tuesday, paid $49 total
for the game + shipping and received it on Fri. Nice deal, and I'm sure
not much more expensive than waiting until mid March to pick it up at
Electronics Boutiques. If you are like me, really anxious for this title, you
might want to think about ordering it.

Cheers.
