I can see why many people have posted messages on usenet saying the
handling in RC is crap? But IMHO it isn't crap! It just takes a bit of
tinkering to make it feel better. RC felt pretty dire using the games
default settings. But you need to change the steering sensitivity, and
the lower and upper dead zone values to suit your own controller and
preferences.
After spending about half an hour tweaking these today, I have
transformed the handling, and it now feels pretty good to drive. The car
does still stop dead if you hit anything, even a straw bail (I doubt if
anything will change that major flaw!) but I am now able to slide it
around corners, and perform pendulum swings and handbrake turns with
ease!
It takes a bit of adjustment, and I can see why maybe people have missed
these features, they are hidden away behind the many menu screens. You
need to go to the main menu, then to the options screen, then to the
player details screen, then to the player 1 option (or player 2 or
whatever player you are setting up?) then adjust the steering
sensitivity (I have mine set just slighly, say one notch, to the right
of center).
From this screen go to the set up controller option, then adjust the
lower DZ (dead zone) and upper DZ to suit your controller and personal
taste. (I have a small dead set zone in the middle or the steering is
twitchy at high speed?)
It is well worth making the effort to make these adjustments and
experiment with these settings. The car is now very rewarding to drive,
better than RAC rally championship, and I would say better than CMR
also. Though obviously not as good as .......Yep, you guessed, GPL!
8-) (Just my opinion........)
