must have been the demo i had installed-> had to do the whole thing all over again.
Compared to the second demo:
-the steering is improved. It's still a little twitchy (I use a SaitekFF wheel and I usually steer in the
5-10 degree range), but car control is good. OTOH, it's impossible to use it with split axis. You CAN choose
"three axis pedals", but it's is a total mess....
-the sound is better. Especially in in-car view it really adds to the atmosphere. (I use a Sblive).
-handling: Well, GPL it ain't, if you hit something you come to a dead stop, the car still feels a little light,
the best view to drive (IMHO) is the hood view (and not in-car), but apart from that, it's a lot of FUN to drive.
-the AI is rather competitive (after having what I consider a rather good run with only one crash in the first
stage of the first rally, i was about a minute off the pace).
-graphics: what's the word for it? Jaw-dropping? Stunning?
-support of 3D-glasses: works flawless with MB EyeScream shutterglasses. Good depth, increase in the perception of
speed. Minor performance hit. Do you read this, Papyrus?:)
Overall, I think it is (up to date) the best and most accurate rally sim. The GPL zealots in this group will be
quick to point out that the "physics" are "flawed", and I agree. The tracks DO resemble real world rally stages,
both in layout and length. It's "only" a sim of the BRC, and the WRCs in the game are sort of gimmicks (I _want_
to drive that Peugeot WRC:). You need quite a fast machine to run it properly.
I hope, that MF comes up with a patch one day to improve the handling, but I doubt
it.
The single most important thing I've found is....
....that I'm having a lot of fun with it.
