GPL, Shifters, Software and Hacks?

Hi folks,
Recently Leo Grandis posted the fantastic 3:11.25 Spa WR lap. I was talking
to him before he did it and he was saying how the new Shifter with his Logi
Momo allows him to avoid wasting time in neutral that GPL seems to
automatically programme with each gearchange when ure just using a
button. That it gave him a substantial amount of time at tracks like Spa.
Now I just recently had a league race where in spite of almost continuously
getting much better corner exits the guy following kept catching me up, and
it was more than just slipstreaming effect. A friend analysed his lap after
watching the race replay and noticing unusually short pauses between his
gear changes.
Sure enough loading his lap in GPLRA and using gearchange analyser shows
that he is wasting 0 time in shifting, and 0 for all other things like
dropped speed etc.Where as most other people had a total time in neutral of
2+ sec per lap.  So is there commercially avaliable software that allows
what is effectively flatshifting, perhaps Logi drivers? that go with some
sort of Shifter?
See, Leo's lap shows at least some time spent in neutral, dropped speed etc,
where as the guy whom i raced against in the league race has no such data -
everything reports 0 and that no gearchanges were even made.

Maybe he just wasn't shifting? heheh. I've never really heard of anyone
hacking GPL, it would be a first that I've heard of.

I must say, if that's true, it's not all that nice a thought. I can't
see how *never* going through neutral can possibly be considered true
to the spirit of GPL driving. Hotlaps are one thing, of course, as
they're not "realistic" anyway, thanks to no-damage options etc, but
I'd be very irritated if it became the norm in races.

Even with hotlaps and speedshifting there is still time spent in neutral
between up and down shifts. I loaded up a couple of my hotlaps and there is
always .222sec on a up shift and .388sec on a down shift giving a total of
2.00 secs on upshifts and 3.500 secs on downshifts spent in neutral. It is
weird why this guys laps give no data, I hope i'm wrong but it does sound a
bit suss :( Although you did say it was a league race, presumably online,
maybe he had a bad connection and his data was somehow lost ??
Sid.
