I went from a 15 to a 19 ....and just love it.  When I go back to the old
system I cant believe that I got along without it.

When I talk to people who are going to buy thier first system I always tell
them to buy the biggest monitor that they offer, not the biggest that they
can afford but the biggest they offer. The monitor is always the last thing
you upgrade so in this case bigger is always better!

Three things are important to remember when purchasing a new monitor.
Size, resolution and refresh rate.

Size DOES matter when it comes to monitors, and the biggest size you
can afford will certainly improve everything you do on your PC. Larger
sizes means higher resolutions. Higher resolutions means a larger
desktop area and in most cases, a clearer image.

Both 19 and 21 inch monitors are becoming a standard right now, but if
you can afford larger, you won't regret it. It's such an essential
part of your computer, and one on which you certainly should spare no
expense.

Remember though, size isn't everything you need to consider when
buying a new monitor. Resolution and refresh rate need to be well
thought through too.

19/20 inch monitors are fantastic, but make sure it can do high refresh
rates at the high resolutions.  Of course they cost a considerable amount of
money (250 Uk minimum for a cheap 19 inch).  17 inch are also good but
don't get anything below.

GPL just looks absolutley amazing at 1600x1200 on my 19in monitor. I still
have my old 15in on my desk and it looks tiny. I don't know how I coped
before. Buying a 19in is one of the best things I've done. Make sure it has
high refesh rates and get a good graphics card ie 32mb Geforce. You won't
regret it , I certainly haven't (although my bank balance has)

Size of desk comes into play as well lol
u don't want that 21" monitor too close to yer face or u'll have to look
"around" to see everything onscreen +)

Or how about those 24'' widescreen monitors? With GPL's widescreen format it
would be ideal, I think. If I just could cough up the dough needed.... :-|

I've got a PIII 450 but of course I run it at 600 (133x4.5) on an ABit BH6
rev 2. I've got a 32mb Guillemot Gerforce which I run at 135/340 and 196mb
ram. It runs great and I don't see the need to upgrade yet. I may pop in a
700e later on (when they're cheap) and overclock that a bit.  GPL runs at
36fps all the time with the new DX7 drivers.

Sheesh, I can't even afford a 21 inch monitor.  19 inch would strech my
budget...  I'm still stuck on a 15 in POS...
