Also, I use a 21" monitor all day every day at work and I don't seem to get
the same thrill of sitting at a big monitor that my friends do. ...guess
there's no novelty value for me. : )

Get as close to that as you can afford.
I settle for a 21" monitor, it's not close to being big enough.
