Can I run the game on a machine with only 4 meg if some of those fine
options are taken off.

I also have a friend who just got the game as a birthday present and he
can't get the sound card to work nor the joystick? Since I don't have the
game yet, I couldn't answer his questions.
It's most likely a set-up problem but any help would be much appreciated and
I will pass the info on to him.

says:

You can run it with 4 megs, but you'll be much happier with 8 megs.
If you have the 200 dollars, I'd buy the SIMMs. As far as sound card
and joystick, make sure the set-up program is run and SB 8 stereo is
set. That seems to be the default if he's running in SOund Blaster
mode.

No matter what you do, you won't get get textured asphalt nor textured grass, you
won't see people in the stands, and there will be no logos on the cars(what would
NASCAR think of that!!). In order to help your friend, we need to know what sound
card and joystick he is using. Is the joystick connected to the soundcard or to the
game port on his I/O card? All of these things are important. By the way, you can
still pretty much figure out who's who on the track by the color of the cars despite
the absence of logos...

Thanks for the response. Since the time I posted that message, I purchased it.
What a great game. I understand about the graphics part.
No sound card here, but the joystick started right up after calibration.
I wiil tell my friend to try other joystick port, as I bet he has his
hooked up to the sound card.
My biggest complaint is the fact that I bought the 3.5" disk version and
SVGA is not included. I didn't realize this until after I opened the package.
I know that there is a lot of overhead involved with the SVGA and
it works best with something like a 90Mhz Pentium. I don't think it
was right for SVGA not to be included in all media types.

Soapbox: All this hype on multimedia is a big sham for the computer
novices. At least 85% of the current available titles for
CD-ROM are pure junk. Most of the software that is thrown into
these multimedia packages will go unused as people have no
real use for them. There is a reason the software is
thrown in, and that is because most people would not buy it.

Tnx for the help!
Good racing!!
