Well who wants a realistic modern-day F1 simulator anyway?
We would never be able to overtake anyone! : )

Now that I think about it though, who would you rather have it? SEGA who
creates games that are as real as images from a bad acid trip. Or EA, who
has dipshits working on physics and realism, but at least it resembles the
real thing from appearances. Well, either way. I say the whole world of
motorsports should go to Papy, Bethesda, or Motorsport Simulations Inc.
<G> However, it still doesn't say that EA has an exclusive liscence. So is
there still hope?

Motorsport Simulations Enters Partnership With SCAA [sic SCCA]
Source: Motorsport Simulations

Motorsport Simulations has announced the signing of a long-term agreement
with the Sports Car Club of America to develop and publish computer games
based on a number of SCCA sanctioned properties. This partnership gives
Motorsport Simulations the exclusive rights to the majority of the SCCA's
racing formats and classes, which include Sports Racing, Tin Tops, Formula
Racing, Formula Continental, and ProRally.

Formally launched in January, Motorsport Simulations was founded by Internet
*** veteran Bob McCarthy. Beginning this summer, Motorsport Simulations
will offer racing game enthusiasts simulation games and online competition
in a number of racing categories. The company has already announced a long
term deal with the American Motorcyclist Association to produce games based
on AMA events.

Wow as bad the first news was, this really makes my day !  It would  be nice
to have a great SCCA simulator with similar idea from Gran Turismo.  Get
license, move up steps, solo, solo2, etc..

P.S: Think about "Formula 1" a la  EA Sports. LOL ok you can stop puking now
;(  The only thing that could save it is if they take the SportsCar GT game
engine.

I doubt that would make it much better, IMO anyway. I stand, as ever,
hoping to be corrected.

Please, anyone but Bethesda. I've never forgiven those bastards for
shelving the greatest sports sim ever made (Wayne gretzky Hockey for
the Amiga). 'Course EA's just about as bad for any sim fan, EA
probably paid off Bethesda to do it since EA's sports sims suck so
badly.

But is the licence exclusive? Maybe both could have access to the licence?
Crammond/Microprose better put some serious effort into the graphics engine or
EA will walk away with the lion's share of the market. Maybe they will anyway -
aggresive advertising can work wonders.

That's a good point.

If the deal had been exclusive, their press release certainly would have
said so, and from the original post, it appears that it did not.

If everyone will write to EA & tell them to make a sim at
least as good as 'GPL' or better they will have a winner!
Sadly Ubisoft dropped the ball from F1rs to Mgprs2.
So if you want great sim form EA tell the them now and
they will send the request, comments, complaints & info
to ther design programersand they do read r.a.s. I have
already been told this by EA members..
So keep sending those cards & letters to EA! They will
listen.. Remember they want to make money not lose it!

Hmm, but where do we e-mail them at? I once searched on their website
trying to find an e-mail address to alert them that the Win95.CIH was
contaminated in there Staccaco Sound Demo download late last year.

This is awesome. Motorsport Simulations has shown GREAT promise from screenshots
at their website, and an SCCA sim would really be amazing.

>uh-oh......

No kidding! Oh well I guess that my copy of F1RS is good for the
long haul. I have no faith that GP3 (if it even is a reality) will even
equal what F1RS has. Namely 3D graphics and weather.

I see this as a good thing :-)

You got that wrong there stick and ball sports sims (ie. Madden '99, NHL
'99) kick ass and are realistic yet very fun.  Honestly I found Nascar
'98 to be a fun arcade racer and great for when I just wanted to race
and not tinker with the car, but it in no way replaced the realism of
Nascar 2.  On the other hand I rented Nascar '99 for Playstation and it
sucked, the cars went too slow and there was no sensation of speed.  It
seems as though EA's motorsport games are more hit and miss and mostly
arcade games with some (poorly implemented) sim elements.
