Oh well.

Maybe it's more close to the "American" version of how they are trying to
show you what's hockey but let me tell you if THAT is real hockey I won't
put skates for the rest of my life.

1) Unrealistic puck physics.  Even EA admitted that they didn't focused alot
on it.  There's almost no gravity, no weight to the puck and the friction is
about non-existant. Those slapshots they do in real-life would kill the
goalies.

2) Unrealistic overall gameplay.  No way this is how hockey is.  Stricly
offence, with a 3-0-2 position of "everything or die".  No real defense,
it's attack attack attack all the time.  No real positioning of the players,
you just go for the puck and pass to who is the closest.

3) Unrealistic AI. It goes somehow with 2), but Im sorry those AI would
never be drafted  by the NHL.  They can't rotate in a true way, their
backward skating is bad they can change direction without loosing speed (in
reality you need to curve your "S" when your going backwards sharply and
loose alot of speed).  They are always in constant motion.  It's incredible
they go and turn around and around and around and never stops. In real life
you are as often in "sliding" movement or even stopped as in full skating
mode.

Btw, I won't go further (this is off-topic for r.a.s.) but go take a peek at
comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.sports and check out how bad EA is flamed because of
their NHL series and how unrealistic they are.

If the only hockey you know is the one you watch on FOX, Im very sorry for
you.

That's completely wrong. Some people like NHL 99 and Madden 99 as
arcade games (which is fine, more power to 'em) but niether is even
close enough to realistic as to be labeled a sim. They are as much a
sports sim as NFS 3 is an auto sim. Especially NHL 99 - hopelessly
unrealistic and unlike real hockey.

Ooo! Does this mean they might have a sim with SCCA amateur club racing classes? If so, I have a Sport Racer they can use in the
game <G>.  That would be great to practice for the Runoffs with the chicane at Mid-Ohio.

John,

I'm guessing from your reply that you've seen the Sportscar GT engine
in action and are not impressed?

I hope I'm wrong.

I'm curious as to in what manner you mean "dropped the ball" ?

Once you've spent 10 mins downloading and adding the replacement graphics,
MGPRS2 is the finest modern F1 simulator around by a county mile.

was there any word on whether the licence was exclusive?
i wouldn't worry about cars and drivers (somebody always makes a carset)
but what about tracks? are they included in these agreements? or are they
separate?

i guess there's nothing we can do about it, but i'd feel better if someone-
anyone-
other than EA could make F1 sims that include the real deals.

that "***-schu" comment was hilarious, BTW.

a bit off topic- i agree that EA's other sports games- esp. NHL99- aren't very
realistic. but i do think they are fun (something to be said for that), and if you
don't use that stupid turbo, you do allow something like defense sometimes....
in much the same way i wouldn't be opposed entirely to an NRev-type of game if it
at least offered some fun gameplay. too bad it doesn't.... of course, it never was
(and wouldn't even be in that case) a _sim_ and we probably shouldn't even talk
about it here.... just my $.02....

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought that Geoff Crammond had not committed
to using MicroProse as his publisher for GP3.  Maybe he'll take his code to
EA (When its released in March 2027).
