First make sure that you have set up your controllers in Windows.
(the control panel joystick applet)
The select the Options menu in the right hand "Swoosh".
Select "Go to Advanced Control Inputs" and the
advanced controller setup screen will load.
Select the control to assign in the upper right "Control Name" -
for example, Left Steering. Then select the "Control type" -
probably Joystick. Wiggle the axis you want to select
watching the center of the screen. Click the axis name.
Once it's connected, set up the control profile.
This is a customizable input to output mapping.
Move the control, watch how the output moves
along the right side given the input (along the bottom.)
You can program a linear response, or set up
your own non-linear respoinse by moving the sliders
up and down.
For steering with a wheel, you will probably want to
connect both left and right steering comands to the
same joystick axis. Set the unused half of each
steering input to zero, and trend up the
profile on the other half.
The six buttons in the middle are for quick programming
standard profiles. To do the above, use the third and
fourth buttons.
Set up each control. Some (all except throttle and steering)
can be set to AUTO. (For instance, you can use the
automated algorithms to control your rider's lean and pitch, etc.)
It may make some sense to set some commands as keys.
(For example, Backup Bike is one I use.) Select the command in
the "Command Mapper". Then hit "Assign Command",
and type in the key you want to use for the command.
Test the final setup by going back to the standard control
setup screen (Hit "Back to Options".) Move all the controls
and watch the indicators and make sure they are all hooked
up as desired. Hit Save and type a filename to save the setup.
Luck,
