AMA Superbike-Wheel configure ?

by Tim A. Deatherag » Sun, 10 Oct 1999 04:00:00

I just set up my TM Sprint wheel and I  don't have a clue about trying to
configure my  wheel for AMA SB. It doesn't have an assign command for the
gas ( I want right paddle) and brake ( I want left paddle)> I've tried but
as it stands the paddles control the rider pitch !!!

If one can help I would appreciate it ! The interface is tough to figure out
!

THANKS !

First make sure that you have set up your controllers in Windows.
(the control panel joystick applet)

The select the Options menu in the right hand "Swoosh".
Select "Go to Advanced Control Inputs" and the
advanced controller setup screen will load.

Select the control to assign in the upper right "Control Name" -
for example, Left Steering. Then select the "Control type" -
probably Joystick.  Wiggle the axis you want to select
watching the center of the screen. Click the axis name.

Once it's connected, set up the control profile.
This is a customizable input to output mapping.
Move the control, watch how the output moves
along the right side given the input (along the bottom.)
You can program a linear response, or set up
your own non-linear respoinse by moving the sliders
up and down.

For steering with a wheel, you will probably want to
connect both left and right steering comands to the
same joystick axis. Set the unused half of each
steering input to zero, and trend up the
profile on the other half.
The six buttons in the middle are for quick programming
standard profiles. To do the above, use the third and
fourth buttons.

Set up each control. Some (all except throttle and steering)
can be set to AUTO. (For instance, you can use the
automated algorithms to control your rider's lean and pitch, etc.)

It may make some sense to set some commands as keys.
(For example, Backup Bike is one I use.) Select the command in
the "Command Mapper". Then hit "Assign Command",
and type in the key you want to use for the command.

Test the final setup by going back to the standard control
setup screen (Hit "Back to Options".) Move all the controls
and watch the indicators and make sure they are all hooked
up as desired. Hit Save and type a filename to save the setup.

Luck,

Yes, occasionally they let us go home ;);)

There are a couple potential hurdles in the previous.
If you have more than the 4 axes shown in the
report box ("AXIS 0" with a blue line showing
it's input signal) you may have to hit the scroll
buttons to report a different group of axes.
We allow too many to show all at once.

Also it's common (at least for me ;)
to set a control up backwards by mistake.
You can either change the polarity by
reconfiguring the input:output mapping sliders
or just hit the "Invert" button to easily
invert the sense.

Thanks Again Matthew !

On trying to configure the wheel,  I noticed the program wasn't
responding..... , So I deleted the whole program and re-installed the
program and the updates, then re-setup the wheel in the Joystick
configuration in the control panel and it WORKED !!!

However, when I try to "save  as"  "Sprint Setup" the keys won't respond  in
the "Save As"  window !
Instead,  it is saved as "2 axis 2 button"  setup

I have noticed before the program doesn't  respond to the "save as"
command!!!!
Is this a bug ???

Congratulations to Motorsims on trying to keep the customers happy ! It
seems you guys are working overtime to fixing bugs and keeping the customers
happy  !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THANKS AGAIN !!!!!

I've used the "saved as" button in the demo.  Seems fine.

The dialog box may just not be providing enough feedback.
Once you have the save as dialog box on the screen,
just start typing a filename.
