Still no Force Feedback after...

Well I still have no Force Feedback on my Microsoft FF Wheel.  I have reloaded
the wheel program and drivers and reloaded GPL.  Everything works, except FF!
I have tried both  1 and 0 in the core.ini file...neither makes FF work.  I
have Windows 98SE (even reloaded it) and  the GPL 1.2 patch.

It worked before and the wheel is very new...please if anyone has any ideas...

Thanks,

Steve

  is your core.ini file properly named.  The original file included with the
patch labels the file as:  core.ini.sample
make sure it is saved as ONLY core.ini

good luck

Have you renamed the file from "core.ini.sample" file to "core.ini" ?  The
file created by the GPL 1.2 patch needs renaming, or else it won't be
recognized by GPL.

Just an outsidfe possibility. You haven't turned the FF button off on
the centre of the wheel by any chance?

Ok, here the thing:  my core.ini file after 1.2 patch doesn't say sample just
core.ini. Should the FF in the file be 1 or (acutally neither works)?

Wheel light is on. I'm not racing online.

Thanks,
Steve

  it should be ONE .  here is my core.ini

[ Joy ]
allow_force_feedback = 1          ; Use FF
force_feedback_damping = 5.000000 ; damping coefficient
force_feedback_latency = 0.020000 ; latency (secs)
max_steering_torque = 330.000000  ; torque = max force

  i believe the FF settings are default...I turned them off some time
ago...new wheel, no ff.  So I can't say if they would work well with your
wheel.  ( had a LWFF btw)
So make sure the file has:

allow_force_feedback = 1          ; Use FF

and that you save the file as core.ini   not core.ini.sample or (more common
mistake) core.ini.txt

reboot your system after making the changes...it couldn't hurt right?
And...make sure in the controllers section inside GPL that you are using the
Direct Input wheel drivers not the generic drivers.

Sorry if you know all this.  If so then just ignore me.

Open the GPL folder in Windows Explorer.

Right click on core.ini and select Properties.  Look at the 'DOS
Name'.  Is it core.ini?  If it is then you've renamed the file
correctly.  If not then try the following.

Select 'View/Folder options' from the menu.
Find the 'hide file extensions for known file types' option and
uncheck it.

Now Explorer will show you the whole filename including the extension.
 Rename it to core.ini and all your problems will be solved. :o)

I'd be prepared to bet (although not with real money) that your "core.ini"
file is actually called "core.ini.sample".  If you can't ever remember
changing it then it's definitely still wrong.  The file installed by the GPL
1.2 patch will not be read by GPL.  It has to be changed.

It's possible that windows is hiding the ".sample" extension. As Paul
Thurston suggested, find your GPL folder and right click on the "core.ini"
file and select 'properties'.  Look under MS-DOS name.  If it's not
"core.ini" then it still needs changing.  Right-click and 'rename' it.  You
can also turn off file extension hiding (can't remember how to do that in
98se, I use ME).

Every time someone has trouble getting FF to work in GPL, it is *always* the
same problem, it's always that they haven't renamed that file correctly.
Like I said, if you can't remember renaming it, then it's still wrong.

Good luck :)
