Just saw Namcos old arcade Ridge Racer 1 / 2 + Rave Racer is being emulated
now!.

I dont know with you guys, but Ridge Racer was incredible when it came!.
Textured
polygons at 60fps, with a forcefeedback wheel. And then when i got it to my
PSX
i played it all day until i beat the Devil Car! :)

This is one of the games with Sega virtua racing etc, that got the
racing-games into 3d :)

<snip>

And it never came out on the PC, despite a demo being around at one
of the trade fairs :-( Internal Sony politics, I assume - presumably
they didn't want competition with teh Playstation version :(

Hell, I never could figure the site out to even download the thing.  What a
BAD design!

Anyway, I'm into the Mame thing too.

I just paid $11 for a 7 CD set of every ROM available for Mame .60.  3368
games in one folder on my machine :)

Sure beats the hell out of trying to download them!

There are volunteer's that do this under the tombstone.org organisation.
You send the fee, they send you the CD's.  It is not for profit.  The prices
are fixed by the org and are only to cover the cost of CD's and shipping.

Best $11 I ever spent.

Any chance of sending me a URL with info on those CD's? =)

Been having a hard time finding roms on sites that aren't annoying
since mame.dk stopped serving files.

If you want to download the Ridge Racer ROM to test the emulator, it's
posted in alt.binaries.emulators.arcade

Here ya go!

http://www.tombstones.org.uk

You basically pick a 'burner' you are comfortable with, and go for it.  You
send them the fee, they send you 7 CD's with everything on them.  The
current Mame set is V.60.  I believe the total ROM count was 3368.  4 CD's
of standard Mame ROM's, and 3 CD's of NeoGeo ROM's (which also run under
Mame).

It is illegal (and HIGHLY frowned upon) to include the emulator with the
ROM's, so you will have to download Mame32 separately.

Actually, its Namco who says who would have it. (Rave racer that is)
and it was planned for the Power VR card, and they showed a demo of it
up and running, and then.. nothing :/
Rave racer was never released for PSX so i dont think thats the issue
really.

Well I think you mean one of the Ridge Racer games (4 in all) for the
Playstation1, or RR5 for PS2.

Ridge Racer1 was being made for the PC (Pentium only, no 3D card) but
never came out, and Rave Racer was being made for PowerVR1 cards on
the PC, but also never came out. There are pictures of PC PowerVR Rave
Racer in Next Generation magazine 19.

Yes exactly. And what a MAJOR bummer about Rave Racer on PC getting
canned and the silent treatment from Namco after :( I have 3 copies of
the issue of Next Generation (#19) with Rave Racer. I also saw some
footage of it on television. Looked great too :/  Neither Ridge Racer
(non 3D accelerated)
nor Rave Racer (PowerVR1) for PC made it out. I was crushed :/

edit: oh and Namco also annouced Rave Racer for Nintendo64 (like N64
could've handled raveracer, yeahright) but nothing came of that. RR64
was different...but...someone on another newsgroup said that RR64 has
some Rave Racer tracks...Im gonna see. but still, it was a huge
letdown about the other versions.
