What is the best line at Daytona for qualifying? Is it the "preferred racing
line" in the game or sticking to the bottom or something else?

Keeping the car as free as possible in and out of the turns and driving the shortest way around
while doing so.  You never want to have to pinch the wheel to turn it, as it will scrub speed.

At 70 degrees at 183.5 will get you the pole 99.9% of the time. The
prefered line is very close. Smoothness is the key on your transitions.

You have two laps.  Think about burning fuel to lighten load, and getting as
much heat as you can in the tires on the first lap.  Hint....it is not the
preferred line :-)

I've found that "Tossing the first Lap" isn't _nearly_ as effective in
N4/N2002 as it was in N3.

In N3, you could _really_ eat the field alive if you mastered this.

It just doesn't seem to be worth much any more.

I agree, take the long way around on the warmup lap and lap one, then
'finding' the preferred line on the last lap is the way to go. Driving the
long way around does 2 things, burns more fuel and lengthens the track to
give you more time to 'wind up' the motor and get all the mo going that you
can.

Heavens knows we need all the wind-up time we can get with this rules
package.  Jeez, these cars are slow!

One problem though--the qualifying setups can often blow the engine before
your 2nd lap is complete.

We run fixed FAST setups, so this should not be an issue...

I thought winding up the motor means you'll blow the engine on the second qual
lap?  That's what happens to me every time I use the fixed qual setup.  It
happened in the RASCAR race, too... :(

That's interesting.  I'll have to try that out!

They must have the front end all taped over or something...

Hmmmmmm... , I've always assumed(!) that the RASCAR races used the same "fast"
setup for qual & race?

Eldred?

Maybe I was thinking about another league race I ran a couple weeks ago.  I
think I used the standard qual setting there...

You still want to run the longest line with the least amount of wheel turn
until the last lap so find a feathuring point that won't abuse the engine so
much.  Even if you feather say at 95% throttle, it will still heat your
tires just that little bit more.

Of course, smokin'em in neutral for about 20 seconds in the pits doesn't
hurt either.  Just makes your pit crew***for air but who needs them at
'tona anyway.
