NR2003 Daytona Qualifying

Hi all,

Probably one that's been answered before but Google turns nothing up for me
.....

I've signed up for the 'online 500' as I really love racing in the middle of
the night ;) Using the standard VH qual setup, I get consistent 47.35s at
the original track and this slightly modified one. Checking last year's
results and others' practice so far this year, it looks like the top 40 will
be well in the 47.2s with many in the 47.1s.

Given that when I hit my 47.35s I have not a hint of tyre squeal, or any
other problem, it strikes me that there is some other technique to this that
I'm just too thick to work out. I would appreciate some advice from anyone
out there who can qual well at Daytona - I always race pretty well there but
might not even get the chance if I don't improve the qualifying.

Thanks in anticipation :)

Regards

Most fast quals at Daytona/Dega require a first-lap throw-away.

I know you Neil, you're pretty smart and I suspect you are already doing
that :)

Thanks for the compliment Larry ;) Infortunately, although I had figured
that out, I actually end up a fraction slower when I*** about on the first
lap. Keep working at it I guess :)

Another thing on this.  If the race isn't fixed setups, you'll probably not
win the pole, and likely can't win a race.

Open setup races, especially those at Dega and Tona, are owned by those that
have figured out the setup 'cheat' in the sim.

I don't know what it is either, but I believe it has to using extreme
amounts of camber.

For this reason I never run open setup Dega or Tona races any more online.

Yeah, it's a shame.  I KNEW something was up a few years ago when after
NR2003 was released I couldn't get a pole or a win to save my ass (short of
our fun fixed Rascar Runs with Tim pushing me to the line :))

I've been a Dega head since NR2 on TEN, and have hundreds of thousands of
laps there.  I was thoroughly capable of getting a pole or win as much as
the next skilled guy.

That all ended suddenly with NR2003, and then I understood when I started
hearing the jabbering about the funky setup thing.

I can do fine in fixed races.  I just don't know the 'secret' when it comes
to open setup races.  Let's face it, making a setup for Dega/Tona ain't the
most challanging thing in the world :)

And don't get me started on the "Hybrid" setups that started appearing
shortly after release.
