Hey Guys, I can't get GPL to work on my new WindowsXP system !!
I have read through this newsgroup and done all the relevant tasks, latest
official patch, D3D patch, CPU patch......all to no avail

It loads up the welcome screen and then quits back to windows ????
Whats up ??

Did you happen in install as Administrator and now attempting to run in a
different user account?  The reaction you're seeing also acts as if the
1.2.0.1 patch didn't take.  If you're not in a different user account, I'd
try uninstalling everything and reinstall only the game and official patch
first, then test.  Then add the next one, and so on.

I had the same problem, and I installed the file, and it resolved it.

I take it for granted that you have the latest officiel version installed
(gpl_1201)

I run Win XP Pro on an Athlon 1600 XP on an ASUS A7V266 with 266 DDR DIMM
RAM  and a WD40 7200.

PS: what a grrreeeaaat sim...

PPS: Any recommended patch looks and sounds^

is your hard drive fat32 or ntfs. I have heard that this can be a problem.

Shouldn't be a problem, Gavin.  I'm running GPL on a fresh NTFS install of
Windows XP Pro here without problems.  Prior, I was running it on various
beta builds - mostly FAT32 installs.  Either way works fine.

Reinstall videocard drivers and DirX 8
Make a test: use 640 X 480 256 colors in windows, start GPL.
If this work, the problem is video drv, dx8 related.

True. Some people have had problems on NTFS, which were solved as soon as they
switched to a different drive with FAT32. In theory it shouldn't be a problem,
but unfortunately GPL doesn't read the manual.

OK I've tried everything here. Still no luck, I even tried it on my other PC
~(PIII 500mhz with voodoo3 3000) running WinXP in FAT32, now it doesn't work
here either, and it used to run fine on this machine when I ran Win98. I
wonder if it is a direct x issue ??
When doing the installation at the end it asks you to select your graphic
option; "software or 3dfx or rendition" which one should I pick for my
geforce 2 card ?

Make sure you've got the latest official 1.2 GPL patch, and install that
before you launch the game.  Then install the Direct3D patch.  Both are
available from http://www.papy.com/ in the Downloads section.  I'm running
GPL on Windows XP Pro (NTFS) with a GeForce2 MX400 (64 MB) at 1024x768 and
have Direct3D7 selected.

I think I'll have to accept defeat, tried everything even setting the
geforce to AGP x2. My mate also had this game, I wonder would there be much
point trying to install his CD, it may be a different version etc...???
This is really annoying.

Wouldn't it still RUN, even with a faster CPU?  I thought the CPU bug was a
timing issue...
