I have ordered my copy of GPL from Chips & Bits but It won't be here for
a few days.

I D/L the demo hoping to get a few laps in before receiving the full
game.
On my home system the demo fires up to the splash screen then dumps
back to the desktop. This happens with/without the wheel connected.

P3-600, 256Mb, 40Gb Quantum, Win 98 SE, RS Shifter (USB)
Abit BE6-II, Creative AWE 64, Graphics Blaster RIVA TNT,
Linksys 10/100 Ethernet.

I have no problems with any other games.

The weird thing is that I took the game to work and tried it out on that
system and it started and played with no problems (keyboard only).

P3-800, 128Mb, 40Gb (dunno), Win 98SE, clone CPU, Sound Blaster
clone, ATI Rage (dunno model), 3 Com Ethernet. USB is enabled.

Can someone point me in a direction to get the demo running?

Will I have the same problem when the full game arrives?

Welcome to GPL, Cone Killer.

As a little reassurance, I recently tried the demo in a fit of nostalgia and
couldn't get it to run although the full game works fine on my PC (more or
less...). So much work has been done on GPL that I'm sure any problem you
face will have already been overcome. I suspect it's your graphics card, it
usually is.

Thanks for the advice and the welcome.

I D/Led the newest drivers, played with the graphics acceleration
and video modes with no improvement.

On the plus side, my NFS:PU is running better than ever.

Maybe it is time to 'upgrade' my video board but I am loath
to choose as every board seems to have some problem
with some game.

I will try again after I rebuild my rear brakes. I have a time trial
this weekend to prepare for.

Thanks for the advice and the links. Lots of good stuff for future
reference when GPL gets here.

Changing the video modes had no effect on the demo. I played
with video acceleration and new drivers to no effect. I'll try again
if the full game takes much longer to arrive.
