New to this game, working my way through evolution mode, just got into the
Golden Era. Are there any weather effects in this game? Does it ever rain,
snow etc? You can buy wet tires, why would you ever use them? Or will it
rain now and again and if you've bought them for your car they are
automatically installed?

well, you have 1 or 2 stages on the snow in the factory mode, but it's VERY
limited...

Each track has its own weather. The autobahn track is rainy, and the high
mountain pass is snowy. It doesn't change from event to event.

Tires are not automatically installed - you have to go to the garage and
change tires depending on the event. Normally you should keep a set of dry
tires and a set of rain tires for your current car if the series includes
both type of track. Rain or standard tires double as snow tires - you really
don't want to take your slicks up there :)

It rains at the Autobahn, and in the Alps the course starts off dry and clear.
The snow starts gradually the higher you get up the mountain til it's almost a
white-out... then when you begin to descend down the other side of the mountain
the snow tapers off and leaves you on dry roads at the end of the course.

Warlock!

I see, so depending upon the track, you know what the weather will be like.
That's a bit of a pity really, it would be nice if there was more of a
dynamic weather feature, sometimes raining in Normandie etc...

. Rain or standard tires double as snow tires - you really

Not really true in NFS5, you'll use slicks at 45lbs regardless of the
track (Alps included) for top times.  They should have made bad-weather grip
level differences more pronounced.  As it is rain & standard tires are
unused in the game.
