AGP vs FBS

Wow! That's a lot of acronyms.

I've just been in my system bios, and there was a setting for AGP speed vs
FBS. I'ts now set at 2/3, but there is an option to set it to 1/1. Does
anyone know if I can use this option?

I have an ABIT BH6 mb with a PII/350 (3,5 x 100), 64 MB ram and a G400 32 MB
single head.

Will graphics performance increase or is it just different?

a AGP card is designed to run at 66 mhz, anything above 66 mhz might make
the card unstable. If your FSB (Front Side Bus) is running at 100 mhz you
must set the AGP speed to 2/3 (2/3 of 100 = 66 mhz). If you set it to 1/1
your AGP card is running at 100 mhz and it will overheat. The 1/1 option
when you are running your FSB at 66 mhz (1/1 of 66 = 66 mhz). Intel Celerons
run at 66 mhz while P3's run at 100 mhz (new ones even at 133 mhz).

In short... When you run your FSB at 100 mhz set the AGP speed to 2/3, when
you run at 66 mhz set it to 1/1....

Thanks for a quick and informative answer (though negative). This ng is
great.

The AGP bus runs at 66MHz (that's normal 1x AGP) and multiples of this.
Running it at 100Mhz (your FSB speed) will probably be a *very bad thing*,
since you're effectively telling your video card to run half again as
fast.  I'm not sure how even the newer AGPx2 cards will handle 100MHz.
Give it a go, if it doesn't work, you could just change it back I guess..
Be a good idea to have another PCI card on standby just in case you can't
get any video at all with the AGP after you change it...

If it works you'll probably see an improvement - otherwise you might get
lots of lockups, large bus error rates, or just nothing at all..

I guess I won't take the chance of blowing my card (if that is even slightly
possible). Thanks anyway.
