F1 2000 vs. NFS:Porsche

F1 2000 vs. NFS:Porsche

Hello!

For those of you who, ahem, tried both of these, which one would you
recommend from a simmers point of view? From the reports on this NG, it
seems both sport plausible physics models, so which one has a more sim
feel to it, if any? I guess in any case EA wins.

Or would it be best to wait for GP3?   I'm dying to know as well!

Thanks,
Mike

F1-2000 definitely has more of a 'sim feel'. Having said that, I have
ordered NFS:Porsche since I enjoy it a lot more.

F1 2000 vs. NFS:Porsche

Hmm.. tough question, opinions will differ.
First of all, both sims are an enterly different experience, try them
yourself to see which one you prefer. I prefer both :)

F1 2000 has a decent physics model, the best current F1 physics untill
now. I don't think anyone will argue with this statement.

Porsche 2000 comes closes to Viper racing. I do think that the Viper
model is a tad more realistic, but Porsche comes very close.
I can't back this up, never drove a Viper or a Porsche in real life.
Viper just feels a little bit less forgiving, but maybe Vipers are in
real life just more unforgiving than Porsches.
But I can say that I enjoy Porsche 2000 far, far more than Viper
racing, in Viper racing I never get the feeling of actually racing,
and I do get that feeling with Porsche 2000.

It's not so much a question of which one has the better physics, it's
more a question of what do prefer to drive? Porsches on country roads,
racing through heavy traffic, chased by cops, all with stunning
graphics and sound, or do you want to drive a F1 simulation, while not
perfect, the best and most realistic one so far?

F1 2000 vs. NFS:Porsche

by Lorne Glustei » Thu, 23 Mar 2000 04:00:00

My sim history is made up of time spent with ICR2, CPR, GP2, and F1RS.
I think someone already answered your question in that if you want to get
into F1 sim`s
go for F1-2000 and if you want something different go for NFS5 .. I say
"different" because
I hear there are some interesting gameplay modes in NFS5 (like "be a test
driver"). From
what I have heard NFS5 is very much like other NFS games... great
graphics\sound and
interesting modes of gameplay...but this time it sounds like the car drives
like a car and not
a hovercraft. That being said...... I just want to say that I really like
F1-2000.... I`m having a
little more "fun" with it than I have had with the above sims I`ve spent a
lot of time with, well
thats not 100% correct.. I think I had the most fun with GP2 when it came
out... but there is
no way I would want to play GP2 over F1-2000 right now. I do have a long
list of things I dont
like about F1-2000.... but thats normal.... the key is "overall" fun... we
are not getting paid
to drive....  If you love F1 and are into puters you get into F1 sim`s...
and you want them to
come as close as possible to giving you the feeling of really doing it.... I
guess thats how
you have fun..... the more you feel like you are really doing it the more
fun you have. I think
F1-2000 is the best so far "overall"... but not by leaps and bounds... If
online play is good
(I have not tested it yet) I think this sim will make a lot of people
happy..... at least until GP3
comes out. I did see a movie of GP3 in action and I have a feeling the
graphics are going
to be blow mind....  could take everything to a whole new level. The last
thing I want to say
about F1-2000 is about the user interface...... it`s AWESOME...... so damn
easy to use,
not like many of the other sim`s I`ve tried where using the menu`s is like
trying to navagate
through warez sites !!! .....lol ... F1-2000  menus are a pleasure to use
and [I think] add to
the overall fun of using the sim.....

All the best,
Lorne
