I know there are a lot of posts here about big and little bugs for
Nascar2. I hope this doesn't contribute to that catagory. :)
I and a couple of friends have been taking notice to the different lap
times posted here and the lap times we get from running the sim
itself. I'm not saying that the lap times are far fetched because some
of them are very close to what I can get.
( Lap speeds are at Talledega )
My system is a p166 with 32 meg of edo ram with 512k pipeline burst.
Both my friends have a p100 w/32 meg of ram and a p90 w/16 meg of ram.
Now with these systems we are seeing lap times anywhere from 1 to 3
mph differences in qualifying times at most tracks. The p166 is the
slowest, then the 100, then the p90 as the fastest. My friend with the
p100 stopped by and ran his setup for dega on my p166 and couldn't get
above 195.3 when at home on his 100 he is cracking 196 mph. The friend
with the p90 is cracking 197 qualifying.
Now in qualifying on my p166 at dega with ford, chevy, or pontiac I
can only get 195.3 as a high for qualifying. The AI cars are set to
100 % and show times for the pole at 196.5 or higher. This puts me
about the 10th position. (Give or take a spot. ) At 99% AI, I can get
the pole but the AI cars are at least 2 to 3 mph slower and are real
dogs to run against when going to race. I didn't think 1% would make a
dramatic change to the AI like it did.
On my friends p100 he can qualify above 196 and only places in or
about the 10th slot. ( Same conditions. )
On my friends p90 he can qualify above 197 and barely gets the pole.
( Seems like I shoulda kept my p90. :) )
I guess my question is : Is the hardware making us see different lap
speeds or is the software giving us eroneous lap speeds due to
hardware?
Geez I hope I didn't bore you guys?
