Same here !

Huge deadzone, hopeless to drive !

Never could understand why they add any deadzone at all ???

DjFIL,
"Lack of grip"!?!?! It isn't the grip it's the physics engine. From what I can tell
the kart doesn't turn on 4 wheels it just pivots like there's a pole stuck through the
middle of it. Sorta like Papy's old physics engine for it's earlier games.
Thanks,
Aaron Markham *Kart44*

I know!! The steering in an actual kart is very, very sensitive. Just a
minor turn of the wheel can send you around some pretty tight corners.

There is a deadzone adjustment in the directory. you can also modify the
force feedback.
the file is gp.cfg and userdata.txt.

I fully agree with you Graeme: again this is disappointing.

Needs a lot of work to create a real karting simulation out of this demo...
The physic engine seems very basic :when you lift throttle, the end should slide.
Karting is a "throttling game"!!! Nothing like that in this demo. Plus i have a
lot of loading from my Harddrive during driving. And finally it seems 3 axis
wheel is not supported (i just have no brake!!!)

Did they say SIMULATION???

kinda like yanking up on the e-brake in my Datsun 210 on a rainy freeway?
I've done that :)

Strange how many people seem to think it's like driving on ice. I thought
the drift thru the corners was wonderfull - but then I had just come from
doing laps of Monaco in Gpl which makes this Kart game seem sticky by
comparison. The hardest thing for me was teaking out the enormous deadzone
on my MS wheel - used CTFJ!

I had it happen once....
I makes the back end become the front end and the front end face
backwards....

If it happens as your turning, the back end comes 'round. Doesn't do the
chain much good either, assuming it held up through the initial lockup.

Jeez these demos are getting bigger and bigger.
GPL was only 12 Mb. Now we have this at 21 and nowhere near the biggest.
Of course, we all have cable or ISDN in Outer Mongolia these days don't we!

Hehe.

I have one of the crappiest connections to the net here with my humble 33k
modem.

Great aint it. I work for NTL, the company who will soon be making
cablemodems widely available to the UK market and I can't get on the beta
test project because I live 15 miles outside Guildford where the testing is
going on. :-(

Zonk

super 1 karting Demo

by Zonk » Tue, 07 Mar 2000 04:00:00

i've played it lots over of the weekend, and here's a few thoughts...

Appallign out of the box demo controller setup.

edit the f1.cfg and change the deadzone values. I don't think it supports 3
Axis?

Make sure you turn off "auto-controller" configuration.

The Demo itself is one of the annoyign midas, run once, and quit demo's- You
get 3 Heats and then a race, but after each heat, must reload the game to
continue.

The karts seem to handle well- no setup in the demo, but in the full game-
They do indeed indulge in slides- a loose rear end, but honestly, the steering
is *so heavy* under force feedback, it's a real struggle to correct
mid-corner- over corretion can take the most of the next straight :P due to
the very heavy return to centre setting (on my Saitek R4 Force).
- This can't be changed seemingly- no matter what Force Feedback settings were
layed with, it was still very "heavy".

Ai seems ok- a little malicious perhaps, but not too silly either- on the
first lap going into the first hairpin, they can bunch up, and it's easy to
slip up the inside. also, it'v possibel to really cut corners by going on the
grass.

No Grass slowdown- yipppee!! however, it does get a bit slippery.

Track featured is buckmore park (kent, UK). From a vague look at their
website, it seems a fair rendering.

Buggy:

Yeah, sadly, when ever i got to the "race" after the three heats. The game
slowed right down- maybe 1/10 of real time, which is very strange as it has no
more other karts than any of the heats- evry time i played it. Most annoying.
Not sure why this happens.

Had one GPF and crash when i collided with one of the advert signs.

The collison detection is not good- i had a bad delay and then "vaulted" at
great pace off in an opposite direction than one might suspect- one time i was
even vaulted at very high pace to the lead of the heat!

Still, i like it- i've been on the look out for a good kart sim for quite some
time- this may not be quite it, but i like the genre, it easy to pick up and
have fun with, & i'll no doubt pick it up on the 17th (if it ships.)

Incidentally, i can;t find anyone who has it for pre-order yet in the UK, on
or off-line. I emailed a few places, will let the group know if i find one
on-line.

Best Kart game I ever had was "SuperKarts" published by *** about 5
or even 6 years ago?

Graphics were good for its day, and handling was pretty good too, lots
of sliding around. It had various karts with differing engine sizes,
etc and you could buy parts to upgrade the kart, and it had about 16
tracks in all, placed all over the world. Great fun.
