GPL tracks in a season

GPL tracks in a season

by Neil Rain » Sat, 18 Sep 1999 04:00:00

I just discovered that by default all installed tracks are used for the
World Championship.

Since only the original 11 tracks are shown in the Standings, I'd
assumed that Dubai and Brands Hatch wouldn't count towards the final
result - not so!

I had victory snatched from my grasp as I skipped those two races only
to find that Clarke's points had increased as a result of him winning
those two races!

I've since discovered the 67season.ini and GP.ini files in the Season
directory inside GPL, and I believe that by lopping the extra tracks off
the end of the GP.ini file and setting the number of tracks to 11 I can
keep all the tracks installed and available for racing, but have only
the original 11 tracks in a World Championship season.  It looks good so
far but I haven't been through a season yet.

I think the scoring system is that you can discard your 4 worst results
- is that right?

When there were 13 tracks it seemed that GPL counted up to 7 results out
of the first 11 tracks, but then ended up discarding only 2 results once
all 13 races had been run!

Anyone know what's supposed to happen?

I could be wrong, but didn't they split the season in half? Then they
dropped, say, the worst two from the first half, and the worst two from the
second. Someone'll correct me about this, I'm sure..

In the first and second halves of the season the worst result was dropped,
so two in the whole season had to be dropped, even if you won every race,
theoretically. Dubai and Brands shouldn't count for points, but they are
annoying in that the appear at the end of the season, and to get the final
result you have to 'fast forward' through them. The best bet is to download
GPL Season, which gives you the option of removing them from the World
Championship, but keeping the tracks installed for Individual races.

AFAIK you are right. The two worst results of each 'half season' are dropped
not the four overall worst ones. But how GPL handles this rule with
additional tracks, I don't know...
