During the E3 I went to see the Sierra both and talked to one of the Sierra guys who
was showing GPL. When I asked him whether GPL would feature Monaco he told me that
they haven't decided yet because Sierra needs yet to sign a contract with Monaco.
However, he told me that the track is done and that he drove it and it looks just
awesome. It would be a big loss if Sierra wouldn't be able to reach an agreement with
the city of Monaco or whoever is responsible for issuing the track rights.
I also was able to play parts of the Nuernburg ring (22.5 kilometers!!!) it's still
not done yet but it will look great!
Also, No weather changes will be included in the final game as well due to time
constraints. He told me that GPL is under development since 3 years and that they have
pressure to bring it to the market. There will be no force-feedback as well because
accroding to Sierra its not realistic enough. Other tracks I saw were:
Kyalami South Africa
Ruen France
Spa Belgium
Zandvoort Netherlands
Nuerenberg Germany
Watkins Glen USA
Monza Italy
There may be more but I can't recall

Without Monaco, the sim is simply NOT representative of the spirit of that time in racing.

Remember, at that time, the Monaco circuit was even more heavily
displaced than today! I mean, today, all the circuits have elements from
Monaco (one real slow section with a couple of chicanes etc...), in 1967
they used faster tracks than the present (in comparison to the cars,
that is) and Monaco was as twisted as it is today. But somehow the
Monaco circuit has always had a special place in racing, and even more
so in the past, perhaps because the atmosphere at Monaco was more in
line with the racing attitude at the time?

I'm not entirely sure if I would select the Monaco circuit or the Brands
Hatch circuit...

I never thought of Monaco as the raison d'etre of Formula 1 at that
time nor any other. That's the sort of sweeping generalisation that
gives this group a bad name.

Nurburgring is representative, Spa is representative, Monaco is just
Monaco. The former you won't see in any

Cheers!

You're right. Let me rephrase that:

Without Monaco, the sim is simply NOT representative of the world view of the spirit of racing in that time. (Not from the racers perspective. I'm sure the teams abhorred racing in Monaco.)

Living in the artistically desolate USA, I can tell you that the vision of the grand prix at Monaco is the *only* evidence of Formula 1 that many middle Americans have seen. (Middle being not Canada, not Mexico, not South America.)  Monaco will roll off the tongue most of us before Long Beach or Watkins Glen or Phoenix. Why? Because of the spirit of the event. In those years Monaco got the publicity to be televised over here when other events didn't. Personally, and I'm willing to bet a lot of others feel this way, Monaco has a special place in my heart. The ***, harbor, and the charge up the hill past Rose's are forever embedded in my memory. Many times, when Formula 1 becomes the subject, my first thought is Monaco. Loews, Portier, and Ste. Devote are some of the most famous names in the world. Go figure.

Now I have raced enough to know that if Ron came to me today and said, "You've won! You get two hours in the seat, pick a track." Spa! Spa! Spa! Then many other tracks before Monaco. But if the same offer were to be a spectator...

Monaco.

Finally, I think you know full well what I meant. While I'd hate to dissuade you from asking, just in case you aren't clear on my ideas, I really do take offense at the line "That's the sort of sweeping generalization that gives this group a bad name." First of all, I hope most people will read any post and say "hmm". That's all. No epiphanies. Just information. Second, I've never heard one single person ever say, "You know. That r.a.s. has too many lunkheads exchanging ideas without editing. What am I supposed to do? Try to understand the posts? I don't think I'll go back."

Cheers back at ya!
