I can't stand Monaco either but driving at Zandvoort is one of the
best experiences in GPL. Those fast turns after Scheivlak are just
fantastic. Taken in 3rd / 4th gear and driving between those sand
dunes is really great but you have to have a pretty good setup to be
able to enjoy this. If you have a bad setup, it's hell. :)
On the twister tracks like Zandvoort and Rouen I find it much easier
to get into the "groove" than in, say, Monza & Spa where you just go
straight then turn for a moment and then again you're on a long
straight. Kinda like ovals. :)
And Silverstone is just boring, too flat and dull corners. But these
boring tracks come alive when you're racing online, completely
different experience.

Yes, Greger, I agree... online, I think Silverstone is one of the better
*race* tracks out there... offline, it is so-so. And I wholeheartadly
agree on Zandvoort... the most *fun* in GPL! (tho the Ring is the best
track).

My favourite track for online racing has to be Mosport. I haven't
driven some of the others online yet, but even in novice length races
so much happens that it's hard to even catch your breath. ;-) Also,
because of the difficult nature of the track it's very easy to put the
guy in front of you under pressure and force him into an error by
trying to go fast, and you have a good chance in the not-so-powerful
cars like the Coventry, too.

Cheers,

Uwe

My Turn on favorite tracks...

1. The Ring (tho at 8:20ish laps I have a LOT of work to do there)
2. Zandvoort
3. Watkins Glen
4. Mosport
5. Silverstone
6. Rouen
7. Spa
8. Kyalami (tie)
8. Monaco (tie)
10. Monza
11. Mexico...

I agree that Mexico is a dump... but maybe if I spend some more time
there and crack off some decent times, I will like it... but probably
not.

Yes Uwe, Mosport is a terrific track. As you indicate, it is EXTREMELY
unforgiving, maybe the most unforgiving in GPL. I think the Ring is
ultimately less forgiving, but at Mosport your opportunities to***up
seem more prevelent because you get around the place less than 1:30.

At Mosport, smoothness and restraint is your friend, like you say.
Unlike some other tracks, you really need to race the track first and
the other racers second.

Hope to see you there sometime Uwe! :-)

I haven't raced Silverstone online for ages but I can remember that
I've had quite a few close battles there. Maybe it just isn't so hard
track that you will get good battles there like in Monza. Zandvoort is
just the opposite, it's so easy to slip a little wide and then you're
going to have a roller-coaster ride. :)
Ring.. in some parts is so satisfying to throw the car around that
even if you know you'll crash soon you just can't slow down. And when
you complete a really good hotlap without errors you're almost as
exhausted as after a long race at Monaco! Isn't GPL fantastic? :)

Send down some ice water, would you?  It's REAL hot down here in hell... <g>
For me, Zandvoort is a low-traction rollercoaster.  If I drive in granny mode,
I can get around the track, but as soon as I get up ANY speed, the car is too
light to grip the track.

Well, Zandvoort is soooo much fun for me!  Too bad I'm a little off pace  (1:30
my best lap)  But you just need to have confidence in the car, trust that it
won't slide off road.  It really helps

I think Zandvoort is one of the most fun circuits to drive, especially those
fourth gear right handers between the dunes on the back (as Greger mentioned).
The trick is to lift a tad and give the wheel a slight flick to get a bit of drift
on entry. When you get it right, it "feels" great! I tested Ali's setup on the
Brabham there last night and had a blast (1:29.22 - not great, but decent for me).

OK, I'm just curious, but how bad is a 1:30 at Mosport?  That seems like the
fastest I can go...

Yeah, that slight lift just before turning / while turning in is very
important along with a good setup. As you said David, when you get it
right, it's just *awesome*. I don't get that feeling on other tracks,
except for Rouen in those first few corners and at Nrburgring. I
haven't tried the Brabham at Zandy yet. I'll have to try it with a
good setup and I'm sure it will be as fun as with the Lotus.
