OK, got Nascar Revolution today from EB ($45).......

I'm not sure what the guy that was ranting and raving about this game
was smoking, but so far it's just very BLAH to me??? There is no real
feeling of speed.  My speedometer said 185, but if you were watching the
game and didnt know, you would think you were going about 55 mph!
The graphics and the cars look very nice, but the gameplay isn't really
exciting to me.  The car handling using "simulation" mode isn't difficult
at all and the steering sensitivity is so low it's rediculous.  The
announcers
are interesting for a while but they tend to say random things that rwally
have
nothing to do with what's going on, anf they get repetitive after a while.
Also, the frame rate is kind of slow on my P200, even with most details
off ( I would say that a P200 would be the bare minumum to run this game).

I would like to hear from others who have this game to hear if I am just
missing something here?  Maybe I need to tweak some settings for a while
to find an enjoyable handleling level??? But for now I am not too impressed.

Your not missing anything.  In fact what you said resumes incredibly well
the simulation side of Nascar Revolution.

Ahhhh the joy of a new ***title entering on the market.  It's been quite a
while since the last one (Ronald you can guess it the company who makes it
starts with an U).  ;-)

Let me preface my replies by saying I'm not a hard core racer, but for some
reason I picked up this game.

I didn't get that feeling, having played the other Nascar games, I felt the
feeling of speed as you put it. Only when I used the view from inside the
ccar with the hands on the wheel did I see any slowdowns. I'm running a a
P400 though.

while.

Yes they do get repetitive, but they do say a lot of interesting things,
especially if your not a Nascar nut. As for the handeling, I'm not qualified
enoguh to comment, I haven't found the game easy though.

impressed.

Beats me what you could do, I think this is just one of those love it or
hate it games. I don't usually spend more than a week or so with a racing
game then I'm bored, so ask me in a week if I like it.

I have only played the demo so far, waiting for the game to get shipped to
me.  But like another poster here said, I too did not experience what you
have about the lack of speed.  There is obviously something wrong on your
system then if you think the car is moving slow.

What brand of 3d card do you have?  3DFX Voodoo2 cards are the best if you
want good framerates.

I love the demo, and know I'll love the full game when I get it.  And unlike
a lot of simulation fanatics, I don't go around bashing simulation games
just because I prefer the arcade type. (I play both, but prefer the arcade
type).

Lots of people seem to think if the racing game isn't *exactly* like Nascar1
or Nascar2, then the game sucks according to them.  They also seem to have a
ridiculous idea that Nascar2 is just like racing a real car... yeah right.

And that's why it says on the box, in plain black and white, that a P200 is
the "bare minimum" cpu to run the game :)

Oh, come on, you can still type the full name. Or do you already experience
physical pain after typing it?

BTW, let's see how long we can handle this continued exchange of little
smacks over the head in our posts... ;^)

Y'know, before reading your post I wrote almost exactly the same
advice, then thought "no, I can't be that *** (honest, whatever)".

I'm glad we can rely on you and Joe to call a spade a spade - I got a
chuckle out of that.

Hey that was nothing, I am fairly well behaved here. You should check out
some of the goings-on in the flightsim NG for the *** stuff :-)

Sorry Ronald I saw your point about continuing the debate but my stupid news
server only keeps post for 48hours (stupid ISP).  I lost it ;(      let's
continue still :)

You get a point Paul, but Ubisoft targeted it as a hard-core simulator, not
an arcade game like most of the titles are.  I just have some philosophy
problems with the Ubisoft family, how they approach our market and how they
design the software.  There is some incredible problems of mentality between
the Ubisoft Corporation and their employees. If you want I will be happy to
continue more in this thread, as I feel there is big m***and social
injustice at Ubisoft.

Hey, Fran?ois,
why do you hate F1RS and MGPRS2 so much? They may not be as good as GPL but
they're not that bad.
Compare them to F1'97, F1'98, Prost, Johnny Herbert, Grand Touring Cars, Power
F1, CPR, etc etc, and they come up smelling of roses. I really think you going
overboard a little suggesting that they are anywhere near as bad as Nascar
Revolution.
In fact I rather like them.
Cheers,
Paul

I totally agree about F1RS -- it is great.. the GPL is better, but F1Rs
is my fav by far. I like it even better than their new Monaco game
(still UbiSoft).

As for GP2, I used to play that all the time before I got F1Rs -- you
really can't beat the car adjustments and the authenticity of the sim.

take care!
