The best part of this article is:

"Many of you have noticed that the car feels more stuck to the road. It is.
The downforce now used is much higher than in previous generations of
Papyrus games. Again, the data comes from our cars, with minor sanitization.
It also has more drag (at downforce tracks) as well.

But you won't notice the drag, because the car has about 150 more,
foot-stomping, fire-breathing stallions under the hood than before. Again,
the engine performance data was de-tuned and sanitized a bit, but your NR
2003 car develops more power at the rear wheels than a vast majority of the
real Winston Cup field.

And not just a product of the power, but of Goodyear's involvement in
NR2003, when you hit the gas in mid-corner, the car accelerates. Finally. Do
you know what a real Winston Cup car does when it's rounding Turn 4 at
Atlanta at 170+mph and the driver mashes the gas???? IT HONKIN'
ACCELERATES!!!!! For years, when I would hit the gas in NRxxx, the car just
kinda hovered at speed until the banking flattened a little, and I unwound
the wheel. But now, push the pedal down, you're gonna leave town."

Apart from this post being nearly old news to those who follow racing
simulations closely, what's your point?

Is it the best part because he talks about how great N2003 is gonna
be?  (so a positive outlook)

Or is it the best part because he says that earlier versions of the
game were flawed (there's that word again) and you like to gloat as it
somehow makes you feel superior to the dellusional few who *may* exist
that thought that previous incarnations were spot on (as opposed to
merely the best stock car sims available at the time - which they
were)?

I suspect it's the latter.

Knock yourself out.

Regards,

Mark

p.s.  Here's a scoop - N2003 will not be totally realistic.  There'll
be areas that are "flawed".
p.p.s.  I have no doubt that it will be the best NASCAR sim for a long
time and can't wait to get my grubby mits on it...

I certainly found it interesting, thank you very much. And yes, I
follow racing sims pretty closely, so when you henceforth pretend to
speak for "us", kindly leave me out of it.

I for one was happy for someone to let us know about the article.  It might
have been "old news" for some.  But being married with children, I don't
have the time to check out every motor sim forum on the web.  Some people
enjoy the racing sim genre but don't feel inclined to follow it so closely
that they know every bit of new info the moment its posted on a forum or web
site.  I have a life away from my puter.
So Jan, what was your point in your post?
don't bother, it'll just be another negative remark.

So do I... but I am in the "fortunate" position to be able to devote more
time to my hobby than most and I do try to keep my ear to the ground. I do
not frequent the board this post originated on at all, but I was alerted to
it almost immediately and passed it on, as I imagine everyone who races
NR2002 online was and did. I'd be flat out amazed if it hasn't been
mentioned several times on this forum before.

Dave hasn't, in my recollection, posted about or quoted an article without
an agenda. It wasn't clear to me this time, so I asked him to clarify. If
that makes me the resident grouch, so be it.

I think he's definitely right.

NR2003 has a 'fun' feel to it that I haven't felt in a long time.

Ok, I'm sorry... from my point of view it seemed as though even every
non-racing sim enthousiast and their dogs would have read that by now. I got
it 3rd hand and forwarded it to the VRL Nascar forum a week ago (24/1)!

I don't frequent any of the simracing related web boards. I don't have the
time, nor the patience. I make the assumption that when news from these
sources reaches me, it's already become common knowledge.
