Actually, we do realize it. The problem is that most people can
afford to upgrade only once a year (if even that often). So, you
wait for something great to come out, save up for it, and snag it
when you can afford it.
If you always sit on the fence waiting for the "next fastest card",
you'll be stuck with your TNT2/Voodoo2 combo for a long freakin
time. I bought a Radeon 8500, only to see nVidia's frame rates
excede the 8500's by leaps and bounds. The 9700 Pro promised big
things, but I waited for the card to come out before making a
decision. My (retail) card cost me $70 less than the card did when
it was first released.
Sure, nVidia may slap ATI around a little with their next card, and
ATI will (hopefully) keep raising the bar themselves, but that
doesn't mean that just because I'm lusting after their fastest board,
I'm not necessarily gonna run out and buy one.
I could afford the extra 10% performance, so I bought it. Everyone's
idea of the preferrable price per feature is different.
