Excellent interview with James Hawkins about F1 2002 here:

There is a whole lot of really good news in there, like track updates,
better interface, better setup management, etc.  Worth reading.

Lots of interesting things in there, and more than just a quick "add some
2002 textures and get it out the door".  From the sim standpoint, the idea
of engine temperature and brake temperature is really good, and finally we
will see some Ilmor grenades.  Still, the one thing which kills F1-2001 for
me is the strange behaviour in the third dimension.  Wheel-to-wheel contact
has to lift the car, or it takes away a lot of the "edge" of close racing.
Also, in replays the F1-2001 cars seem to hover around the circuit, but I
can live with ***replays if the gameplay is solid.

You noticed this too eh.. bumping against other cars in F1 2001
reminds me more of Nascar than of F1 :-/

There was no mention of improved multiplayer....which is what it really
needs.
