Voodoo2 & MGPRS2

Voodoo2 & MGPRS2

by Jorgen Christens » Sat, 15 May 1999 04:00:00

I have some problems getting this game running perfectly with all
details turned on and running in 1024*768 resolution. I've got a
celeron running at 464 and a voodoo2 sli setup.

I thought that the above configuration was enough to run the game
perfectly since it ran quite well on my old p250 with 1 voodoo2.

But if i turn everything on (like i.e. replays etc) and try to do a
single race on the monaco track, there are some slowdowns round the
track :(.

Anyone able to run monaco perfectly all way round ?, or should i
expect some slowdowns ?, i've tried running in 800x600 & 640x480, but
even in these lower resolutions there are slowdowns (fewer).

And finally the games sometimes crashes (freezes without giving any
error messages). It could be because i'm overclocking the v2 cards,
but i have no problems with that in other 3dfx games.....

TIA

Haven't read all the papers, but i'm using the keyboard, so should the
stuff on the pages matter ?.

In any event i'll try to disable my gameport, perhaps it'll help.

Then it's most likely due to your overclocking....

Voodoo2 & MGPRS2

Hi Jorgen,

Yesterday I had a similar problem. My setup:

So our setups should be same fast.
Trying 1024x768, I found some stutter, only at the trackside objects.
Driving itself was smooth.
A little diappointed about this lack of performance of my new Voodoo3,
I switched back to 800x600: same stutter.
!#$&$%#%^%&!!!!!!!
Switched back to 640x480, still the same.
Changed the driver back to the original's from the retail CD,
everything fine. Up again to high resolution, still fine.

So, check your driver and eventually try another glide-version.

Hope this helps

Jens

BTW: I run my MGPRS2 without replay. Your HD could also be the problem

Voodoo2 & MGPRS2

by Greg Cisk » Sun, 23 May 1999 04:00:00

I bought MGPRS2 about 4 months ago and returned it the
next day. I was using my P2-450, 128MB ram and one 12MB
Voodoo2. I was running at 800x600.

The first thing I noticed was that the 800x600 graphics were
no better than the 640x480 I had been used to in F1RS. The
next thing was far worse graphic performance at Monaco
(same complaint you guys have). Then I noticed that the sound
was not improved on at all and in fact I get more dropouts in
the 3D sound than I did in F1RS. In F1RS there are some spots
at some tracks where the sound will always drop out on every
lap. At Monaco it is near ***. Then I read/hear that the FF
effects are less in MGPRS2 than they were in F1RS. All in
all I felt that MGPRS2 was a definite step back from F1RS.
Nothing I have read/heard has changed that. So F1RS is
what I am sticking with until a better modern F1 game is
released.

Could it be, that the 640x480 quality of F1RS was already outstanding?
Indeed there was no improvement (possible?).

very smooth on 640x480. Now I changed to Voodoo3 :-)), running
1024X768 absolutely smooth.
800x600 should be great with ypur system
Great patches are available for the sound quality
No idea, could be the sound card?
