I have completed an N3 Preview at GA-Sports (http://www.racesimcentral.net/).
There are some fresh screenshots that I have taken while testing the
ALPHA release.

Please feel free to give us feedback as we like to hear the good and the
bad.  (If I know you guys - the bad will be no problem getting <G>).

"As many die-hard NASCAR sim racing fans already know, N3 will NOT be
using the Grand Prix Legends physics engine. So there will be no flipping
or getting airborne with the cars."

"Flipping" and "Getting Airborne" are the least of things lost because of
the exclusion of the GPL physics engine.  I could care less if my car
flips...

I agree David.  However, many people want to see flipping, fires, barrel
rolling, etc.  I was merely pointing out that it was not there.

If you want to be able to flip, crash and burn, then its not a racing
simulation you are after anyways <G>

You you actually played it??
How was the track?? I mean.. Does your car go over imperfections in the
track?  I would like to 'feel' the small dips in the track.  Does the car
tilt as you go into the turns? GPL really did great on recreating a GP
suspension... I was hoping it would do the same for a NASCAR car.

Hi Scott

Thanks for the N3 review.
Just a couple of questions.
Is the reverse gear still selected via the keyboard or
selected down through neutral.
I realise there is now dynamic skids but do the front wheels
actually lockup causing loss of steering.

Thanks
Nigel

The ALPHA release only.  There will be significant tweeking, improvements, etc
as development continues.

You definitely have a feel for the car leaning in the corners and when you
make sudden turns.  Much more so than N2/N99.  I won't compare it to GPL
because we are talking about two totally different forms of racing.  However,
N3 is not using the GPL physics so it is not as developed in those regards.

Yes.. it did do a great job thats for sure <G>   However, I think we all hope
that NASCAR Racing 4 implements the GPL physics engine.

Thanks,
Scott

My pleasure.  Thanks for reading it <G>

To be honest, I did not check that out to see if you continue down on
the shifting if it goes to reverse or not.  I will "ass"ume that it does
not since you do still select reverse as a keyboard option.  So it does
still work the same as in N2/N99.  I am currently at work and do not
have access to it to fire it up, sorry.

Sort of, but not as accurately as GPL.  In the incidents I caused on
purpose to get screenshots... I was more focused on being blinded from
the smoke than the feel of the front tires <G>  I can say that there is
definitely a more pronounced feel of what the car is doing than there is
in N2/N99.  Being that its a "stock" car versus open wheel, its much
harder to determine while in car since you cannot actually see the tires
as in GPL.  I can definitely tell you that it sucks driving at Lowes
Motorspeedway with a push condition because coming off the dog leg front

<G>    I left my marks on the wall going into 1 on many occasion.

Thanks,
Scott

Scott,

I apologize if my comment seemed critical of you or your column.  It's a
great article :)  I still have the N3 AVI that Papy gave us months ago.
I'm just in a crappy frame of mind about the entire scenario.  IMO they
should not have used Nascar 3 as the name for this sim.  That was kind of
sacred to me (okay maybe I'm a little overboard).  Just my 2 cents...

What about the force-feedback, is it implemented yet? How good is it,
can you feel the car shifting around ala GPL?

Joe,

I do not have a FF wheel so I cannot comment on that.  Sorry.

Any minimum requirements for it yet? Like what size processor, how much hard
drive space is needed, 3dfx card, sound card, etc?

Do you play GPL? If so you should really get a FF wheel.

Well, IF I crash into a mountain in my flight sim, I want to flip the
plane
at least three times, it's to be expected.

I expect the same realism from my racing sims... ;^)

Are you saying modern racing cars don't flip, crash or burn? If you're
talking about an accurate simulation it'd be nice to have everything that
can happen in real life happening in a racing sim. That includes races
rained off, flips, crashes, burning, pitlane accidents and even the
occasional streaker ;)

Hi,
One thing that N3 defently needs to improve is the aweful restarts
the AI do!  If you start from the back at Bristol in NR99, for example,
the whole field seems to practically stop.  Did the ALPHA version see any
improvements in AI restarts?

Later,
John
