>Hey guys! We've posted Joe McGinn's review of Rally Championship. You can

A couple of days ago I finally received my airmailed copy of RC I ordered
from the U.K. and after a couple of days driving it I pretty much agree
with Joe's review.
Definitely RC is no GPL in the physics department but one thing it is is *fun*,
and while the damage model might seem simple at first look, once you enter
a rally in simulation mode you begin to realize all those mistakes do cause
damage, personally I'm having a hard time keeping my car repaired enough
to be able to pass inspection enough to continue to the next stage, I had
to complete two entire snow stages missing 2nd gear then 3rd gear after
neglecting to repair my transmission.
The feeling of speed at times is amazing, RC really manages to make you
feel like you are going *very* fast on some twisty roads, and at times
the road sections are so beautiful that you want to pull over and look at
the way the sunlight comes through the trees.
But it's got a few problems too, the brakes are much too powerful and annoying
at times, sometimes all I want to do is tap the brakes to swing the back end
around but instead my speed drops 50mph, also the grass is too sticky in
places, at least if they are going to have sticky grass like that they
should make the road a bit wider, like Joe said, hopefully this will be
remedied in upcoming patches, the 3 axis joystick support is broken, maybe
when it's fixed being able to hold down the throttle at the same time as
I brake (as I do in GPL) will allow me to use the brakes for pendulum turns
and moves that I see in Rally coverage on TV.
So overall RC is no GPL and it's not perfect, but for me it doesn't have
to be, it's a very fun rally sim/game in it's own right and definitely the
best game in the rally category so far, I really hope Magnetic Fields takes
the time to patch the few annoying things like 3 axis support that are
keeping this game from being a sure classic the way NFS1 was.
RC is the game I will be spending time with when not in the***pit of my
GPL Ferrari trying to beat my PB at the Nurburgring.
Good review Joe.
