N4 demo question/MP

by William Bradsha » Sun, 24 Feb 2002 02:04:18

I've been messin' around with the N2002 demo for about 2 weeks now, and
figured I would download the N4 demo to see the changes. Also, the N4 demo
has multiplayer. Well, I've been lookin' around for a place to try out the
N4 demo online (non-leagues), and have come up short. From what I can see, I
can only play with a direct TCP/IP connection (there's also a 'node' type
server, but empty). I've also checked out won.net, sierra.com, mplayer,
gamespy and came up empty-handed. Any ideas, tips, suggestions?

Before I get flamed for whatever reasons, the last Papy product I purchased
was NASCAR Racing 2 many years ago. Since I should start work soon, I'm
gonna go ahead and buy N2002 within the next month, and get back into
racing. :) I've got a TM NASCAR Charger 2 wheel on the way, to hold me over
until I can get something better. Then comes the DSL upgrade from dial-up,
oh the joys. hehe

N4 demo question/MP

You won't find anyone racing N4 demo online anymore. N2k2 demo was not MP
capable.

Those aside, I have to say you aren't getting a real good comparison of the
2 products. Each of these 2 sims were different than their demos in their
final release. A basic understanding is about all you'd get.

If you ran NR2, then you have the idea enough. Each succesive version
(except N3) updated a little in the physics department. N4 was a big leap,
apparently taking the GPL physics engine. It also seemed to get the GPL
chassis wieght and skinny tires which has been addressed with NR2002. N4 and
N2002 share a more detailed garage/setup area than N2, and a few tracks have
come along.

I'd say just get your wheel, then the game (preferably same day :) and go
out and have fun! There are a ton of 2002 servers up and a bunch of people
running the sim, good luck.

That would explain the N4 prob, then. :) As for N2002 demo, I know it didn't
come with it...which sorta bummed me out.

I played the N3 demo once upon a time, and I'm sure glad they done away with
the old N2/3 physics engine. My only taste of the GPL engine is primarily in
N2002 and N4 demos. It's pretty tough having to relearn how to drive all
over again. Learning what the car will and will not do. hehe

Yeah, once I get DSL and practice a bit with my wheel, I'd like to try out
the online thing with N2002. For starters, I was lookin' for a Rookie server
without a waiting list, to learn the ropes. But it's too early for me to
discuss that ATM. :)

Thank you for the reply.
