It's actually the American LeMans Series.  While the articles do say Grand
Prix, nowhere do they actually say F1.

Although it's practically in my backyard, ticket prices are way too high
last I checked- much more than my USGP tickets. :-/

Yeah, this race is less than two miles from where I live/work.  It's the
ALMS series, as already noted.  Somehow or another the idea of sitting in a
temporary street circuit (built on the parking lot of an old football
stadium) in the July heat & humidity which DC will surely have doesn't
really appeal to me.  Nevermind the fact that the tickets cost almost as
much as I paid to go to the USGP at Indy two years ago.  If I'm going to see
an ALMS race, I think I'd rather go to a real course....

OTOH, it would be fun to have an F1 race here.  It'll never happen (what's
that?  You expect them to race around the Mall?  Yeah, right.), but hey, if
Moscow can angle to get a race...  Fact is, DC doesn't have the land to
physically put a permanent circuit in the city even if they wanted to, and
F1 doesn't seem too interested in adding new 'Street Courses'.

'Grand Prix' have never been singelhandly assosiated with 'F1'.... There's
'GP' in  F1, F3, CART, Sportscars, IMSA and even music!   :-)

Grand prix is afaik french and simply means ' grand prize'.

Definitely.  When I first heard about it, I was hoping they'd do something
interesting around the Mall and the Lincoln Memorial, maybe dipping downhill
to the Potomac by the Kennedy Center. I'm such a dreamer.  :-)

If I had 3 years with nothing else to do that's a track I would make for
GPL, except for the Kennedy Center - which wasn't there in 1967.  ;-)

Oh... and it should go across Memorial Bridge, loop the circle at
Arlington Cemetary, and then back across (or else along the river past
the Pentagon and then across on the 14th St. Bridge).

(sadly having learned this is not an F1 race this summer...)

that's an even better idea.  I've done enough circles myself turning around
in front of Arlington after taking the wrong lane and being forced across
that bridge. :-/
