Folks,

bit of a quandry.  I finally found a copy of GPL about 3 weeks
ago and was really looking forward to getting into it but have a small
problem that is killing any hope of continuing.

I have a few racing sims that I have enjoyed immensly in the
last few years.  From those I have developed a particular setup that
works intuitively (and well) for me (as have most of us, I would
think).  It is not practical (or really even possible) for me to use a
wheel (long boring explanation if I must) so I have been using
joysticks.  My current stick is a non-forcefeedback Logitech Wingman
Digital (really sweet for my tastes and play style).  It has a
throttle (thumb slider style) with 2 distinct axis' (forward and
backward).  My standard config is to have the accelerator be on the
upstroke of the slider and the brake to be on the downstroke.  This
allows for very easy (almost mandatory) trailbraking because I am
applying a small amount of brake anytime the throttle is not WFO.

The sims I routinely enjoy (and have Wingman Profiles set up for) all
work flawlessly in this config however in GPL, once the slider reaches
the midpoint of the upstroke, the throttle instantly goes WFO and when
the slider reaches the midpoint of the downstroke, I am standing on
the brakes.  This slider is being interpreted as a button (either full
on or completely off) in both axis'.

I have spent hours trying various Wingman Profiles and controller
mappings to no avail.  Is there any hope or is GPL simply not going to
ever be able to use a joystick that has properties of a pedal setup?

Thanks for reading this far.

Forgive an obvious question here... Do you have throttle help & braking
help enabled?  If so, turn them off.

Hmmm.  Do you have the joystick set up in Windows so that the
throttle is recognized as an analog axis?  When you calibrate your
joystick within GPL, does it see that axis?

I use two joysticks on a splitter cable, and I set up Windows to
recognize it as a standard joystick with throttle (I only use one axis
on the second stick).  Then I use that throttle axis for
throttle/brake in GPL (not optimal, but what I'm used to).  That
should be analogous to what you're doing (unless there is something
unique about the hardware of your joystick).

Good luck.  Keep at it, it's worth it!  :)
