NR2003 AI----Never spread out

I notice at tracks like Darlington, Texas, and really every track, the
AI in NR2003 never spread out.  It takes like 50 laps to beging
lapping backmarkers at Darlington.  This is unrealistic at all but the
SS tracks.

Does anyone know how to make the cars spread out realistically.  Is
there an .ini setting to change?  car ratings?

Any ideas would be appreciated.

There is an option on the main race screen to turn on "adaptive speed
control". This makes the AI dynamically adapt to your speed. This might be
the reason?

No, they still move as a pack whether that is on or not. It is one of
my main gripes with the game too.

They appear to be keyed on the poor human driver.  If you drop back a bit
the pack will string out as usual but if you are right there challanging
from the start then it tends to stay bunched much longer.
