I don't think anyone said they dislike it.  They're just burnt out on it, IMO.
Market saturation - too many Nascar games, and not enough other series.

As I stated, I have a $30 gift card for Wal-Mart laying around so I'll
probably use that to get it the day it comes out. Then I'll really only be
paying what I feel it's worth.... about $15-$20. I don't think it's really
worth the $45-$50 since I already own at least half of it now (N4). I like
what they are doing and glad that it's coming out, just a little too steep
of a price for those of us that already have N4. They should give us a %50
discount or something for being long time costomers.

Least they could do is make the gfx obviously improved to justify the
cost. I'm hard pressed to see any gfx difference.

take a look at the cars, the tracks will be very close I suspect to whats
currently in N4.  But N4's cars have kind of a stubby front end, (due to an
unbalanced texture size) And with a 512x512 texture size now available in
2002, the cars noses(bonnets, hoods, etc) look much more symetric.  Since
most of todays systems are already sweating trying to run N4 graphics at
maximum, I'm not too heartbroken if they don't make a giant leap forward for
2002.  ( I would like to see the price cut by at least a third tho...)

IMO, I think an upgrade discount or mail-in rebate for users of the previous version(that would be
N4 only, NOT N3 or earlier) of 10-15 bucks would be most reasonable.  Many other sw makers do this,
why not papy?  Should they discount the title straight away, no, most better sw titles are around
the 40-50 price mark, why should papy be expected to be different.  But they certainly aren't doing
anything for their loyal sim buyers.  Obviously I would love to see it discounted, but I'm more than
willing to be fair about it and not a greedy cheap bastard like some, not meaning you Dave...

yes, I was just trying to be bi-lingual and use terminology that folks on
both sides of the pond would understand.
shoulda just kept it simple and said :
that space between the windshield and the front bumper.

I'll ignore the obvious flamebait...
No, I'm saying the people who buy the sports games don't buy the yearly
'updates', for lack of a better term.  I mean, the rules in footbal, baseball,
and hockey stay the same year after year.  Once you buy ONE, there's no need to
get anymore.  The NEW sales may be coming from people who don't own ANY...

I would be hard pressed to argue how many people by EA Sports games
every year, even though most of the time it seems they remove features
from the game.  The leap between Nascar 4 and 2002 is huge compared to
the differences between NHL2001/2002 and Madden 2001/2002.

Personally, I feel a patch should fix bugs and a new release should
add new functionality.  Rewriting AI code, rewriting the damage model,
adding more detail to the camber modeling, adding support for high
resolution textures, adding a driving school/tutorial section, and
adding a replay editor with proper video export capabilities
completely justifies a new release imho.  Now if you don't want to buy
it, then that's another thing.

I just think we're spoiled because Papy regularly puts things in
patches that companies like EA Sports would make us pay for.
