<snip from http://www.racesimcentral.net/;

Papyrus added Trans Am type physics to the NR2003S platform so we'll be
releasing that Mod sometime this summer. Our goal is to have a beta version
of the mod released just shortly after the GNS mod is released. This beta
version will let you unlock the physics of the Trans AM mod but will only
come with the Cup car model and setups for the road courses. The final
version of the mod will include various Trans AM series car models such as
the Corvette, realistic damage modeling, play balanced AI, everything we've
done for both the GNS and CTS mod's... What's different about the Trans AM
physics? Just about everything including a 6 speed gearbox. Yup, you heard
right, 6 gearss! While the physics have been totally revamped, other than
the two addtional gears, we'll still be working with the same options in the
garage as we have now. Ever wanna do a sub 70 second lap at Infineon? If you
like road racing, you'll love this, even if you don't like road racing, you
will now!
We invite any questions you might have but please don't ask for estimates
about release dates. The very best estimate is as soon as humanly possible
we'll release the final version when it's right.
Just as a reminder, here's the release dates as we know them; Sierra has the
patch for QA purposes.
We're going to go ahead and release the GNS mod as soon as Sierra releases
the patch.
Additionally, we'll be releasing the first set of add-on tracks with the GNS
Mod. Within a week or two after that we expect to be done with the CTS mod
and will release that.
Yes, there's some last minute details we're still working on so we can't
give an exact estimate.
As noted above, we expect to release a 'beta' version of the Trans AM mod
within a few days of the patch.
We'll keep you updated on the progress of the Trans AM Mod and addtional
tracks as we go along the same lines as we've done with the GNS, CTS Mod's
and tracks...

<end snip>

How many more directions can this thing take??

There is not an emoticon or even string of words I can use right now to express
the joy in my heart, wowzas! is the best I can come up with.

Ask anyone that has seen me crash, even Papy's excellent 6-degrees-of-physics
engine is short by n-dimention(s) for one of _my_ spins :P

I really like the fact that it was already "inside" NR2003 and the patch
enables it.  So while waiting for proper graphical representation of the
cars (because it's just that, the models aren't affected and are separate
from the physics engine), we can still race the physics but with the Winston
Cup car models.

I don't quite understand this whole thing..
can someone explain it to me a bit? I'm under the impression that Papyrus is
modding their own game, and putting settings in for other kinds of cars?

AFAIK, this seems to be the case.  The normal release of NR2003 had hidden
sets of physics for trucks, BGN and now it seems also Trans-Am.  The patch
will enable those sets of physics.  Perhaps there are other ones...

Actually thats not accurate. None of these physics were in the release
version, they are being added via the patch.  The ability to do different
series however has been in the engine since N4, its just now being enabled.

Yup.  Poke around your N4 and N2002 .ini files and you'll see the
section they set aside for adding new series and never implemented.

So, Jay, does this mean that if we want to have a given mod, it will
have to exist somewhere in the executable?

Yes and no.
You could do a mod, and edit the exe to alter physics, however if you take
this route it wont be multiplayer compatible with the sierra servers, and
you'd have to do all your multi racing thru IP connections. Going this route
you loose the security checks thru sierra and cheating becomes much easier.
However it is entirely possible to go this route.

The fact that the physic for the PWF mods are all being included with the
patch means that it will all be useable thru sierra.

Just curious if what your saying means racing in leagues like OLR does not get the same 'cheat detection' from the Papyrus server
software that racing thru Sierra does?

thx
