GPL and Windows 2000???

by keit » Thu, 01 Jul 1999 04:00:00

Anyone tried Windows 2000 Beta 3 with GPL? I am really p*ssed off with rebooting
Windows 98 several times a day and already know that Windows NT is not possible
with GPL. Linux/vmware would be an even better choice for me, but I also know
that doesn't work.

Win2000 will work with the upcoming GPL 1.1 patch.  I'm not sure about
GPL 1.0, but I believe NT4.0 SP3+ will run it, though you'll not have
any joystick support without the 1.1 patch.

Since there aren't too many drivers for all the hardware for Beta 3 yet,
good luck.
Though I don't know why you are rebooting so much, sounds like a
configuration issue.

AFAIK it will run, but, in general, Win2000 runs games slower than Win98
because of optimising issues.

BTW: are you still using a CD-Rom drive that's not recognised by your
mainboard at boot-up? -I've had some trouble with those and Win98 lately.
Modern IDE 24x CD-Rom's are cheap and cheery at the moment, so there's no
reason not  to own one (and have fewer headaches along the way).

I get the first splash screen of GPL, then dumped back to the desktop. Oh well,
have to suffer Windows 98 until I can get that sorted.

I have an Acer 40x CDROM, UDMA mode, and no problems with detection in Windows
95, 98, NT4, 2000 or Linux.

If it's any conciliation to you the 1.1 patch shouldn't be much
longer...

GPL and NT 4.0 w/ SP5 is VERY possible but on my setup not very stable
because of my SBLive. I got my T2 wheel working too.
