By another sim developer. From the difference between GP1 and GP2, I
believe
you'll be waiting around for GP5 if you even get half of those wishes
That is if Microprose/GC have anything to do with it Dave. By then
you'll be too
old to see your monitor. Maybe Papy could go ahead and do it right after
this
"Historical" sim.

IMO, of course.   =8>]

Well we're all entitled to our opinion. I must say though, that your
stating _Papy's sims_ are "rough around the edges"?!
In that case GC's so-called" masterpiece must have created
the word "Rough"!!

We need GP3!!

Hi all,

Everyone may be slating the idea of GP3, saying all we need is a GP2
patch, but I thought I'd mention the main reasons why a new standalone
game is needed.
Firstly, it needs to have an updated graphics engine, so that it runs a
bit faster [comparatively].
Secondly, it needs updated physics where, for instance, cars don't spend
ages in the air, instead they are flung into the air and land with a
thud and bent suspension.
Thirdly, it needs more ways to damage the car like punctures and bent
suspension, if it is to mirror F1 properly.
Fourthly, it needs updated tracks, and I don't just mean 97/98 or
whatever tracks. I mean with camber and correct kerbing and realistic
escape roads etc.
Fifthly, it has to have up to date cars as they have changed a lot since
1994.
Sixthly[am I beginning to sound daft here?], IT NEEDS REAL WET WEATHER,
which I think is too major to be simply put in a patch.
Seventhly, it needs multiplayer, and it needs to be tailored around it,
so the emphasis is on 8 player Internet races or whatever.
Eighthly, it needs better graphics; they were superb when the game was
released but other games are out or are coming out with more car detail,
trackside detail etc.
Ninethly, it should have a Paintkit [not that Trevor Kellaway's programs
aren't perfectly ample].
Tenthly, it needs to be published by someone other than Microprose,
someone who'll offer good support on this NG. Remember the Kick Off
games, and Goal? Dino Dini got sick of Microprose so he left, though
Microprose still had the rights to his Kick Off name. Dini released Kick
Off 3 under the name 'Goal' for *** Interactive, while Microprose
released some ***for Kick Off 3, basically cashing in on the name.
Could happen again with Mr. Crammond...

Microprose can not do anything about this problem, Microprose can not
make a new game.
Geoff Crammond is a stand alone programmer that uses Microprose to
PUBLISH is products, that does not meen that it is Microprose who MADE
the game.
Geoff Crammond also has all the Copyright's to the code.
He was the only one that was programming the game, he could have
completed the game if he had more recources.

Let us all hope Geoff Crammond is looking in this newsgroup, will make
another great F1 sim.

I did say it shouldn't be published by Microprose. However, I think
Geoff Crammond would be able to keep up with the biger teams who are
develp F1 games/sims.

To be honest, I don't care much for Papy sims. They always seem a little
rough around the edges, and I prefer the GP2 engine to that of any Papy
sims.

Yeah, 100% agree to those ones. I'd put #1,8 and 9 as one point and #2,3
and 5 too. Sadly, I don't think it'll happen this way...Microprose
wouldn't let that all happen, would they? I mean, they would do anything
to hold on to it and do what they are doing right now: NOTHING! I've
already asked Microprose to release trackspecs for the community to let
them build the tracks, but as usual: no reaction at all. Microprose was
a good company in the past, but now they are a 100% arrogant,
client-unfriendly company. They do not deserve to cash in on another
game forever.

Just had to get it out of my system

Good news - Geoff Crammond owns the game, I believe, so GP3 may well be on
the cards outside of Microprose!! (Thank God)

Whew...

In a world of turmoil some things remain unchanged, a constant reference
point, a touchstone from which we can all draw strength. Don't ever start
saying nice things about GP2 David, I might need to go into therapy if your
"I declare my love for GP2" message takes me by surprise! :)

I doubt one is any worse than the other really. GP2 has howlingly bad
multiplayer support and requires excesses of CPU power to shift it, but
I've yet to see GC shrinking the amount of screen he has to update in order
to salvage a poor frame rate. N2 anyone....?

No-one is innocent! Who killed Bambi? Holidays in the Sun etc

I knew you'd say that :)
What I mean is that GP2 might not be 'finished', but Papy sims always
seem very slightly amatuerish. It's probably my own fault because of my
experiences with track conversion [I always used to run Nascar races on
ICR2 tracks], but Papy sims never seem as polished as GP2 is.
