     I received Indy Car Racing as a Christmas present and have enjoyed
it, but have a couple of questions:

1. When I try to get a saved replay from disk, the game crashes, leaving
the video in the old blocky 40 column DOS mode.

2. Is there any way to set the video resolution?  My card is a Hercules
Graphite VLB with 2 MB ram. The graphics appear quite 'blocky' and diagonals
are choppy.

3. I do better on the ovals than the road courses. Any setup hints,
without giving eveything away? I've lapped at 172 at Loudon and 223 at
Michigan.

4. My brother, father and I race karts at Loudon and know the track
well.  The game details like the flagpoles, starter's stand and garages
are quite realistic, although the track overview when selected is a
little out of perspective. Are the other track details accurate, or
did the authors concentrate on Loudon since it's near their location?

5.  Any suggestions for a steering wheel device? I have a Kraft jostick.

   Thanks for any help.  Getting on the net was also a Christmas present
this year.

I have problems with this too.  I had a great pileup with wheels and bits
and bobs flying off everywhere so I saved the replay.  When I try to load
it the game hangs.  Maybe I'm doing something wrong.  An otherwise very
impressive manual doesn't help.

From the manual, the two biggies are probably more downforce (ie. wings)
than on the circuits and a more punchy low-end gearbox, which together
will help you take corners faster and accelerate away from them faster.
The great thing about ICR is how easy it is to fiddle and try things out,
so just experiment.  Also, load in the default 'ace' settings for each track
when you ride it (or 'easy' if you prefer), these give you setup clues.

Good idea for road courses. Not so great for ovals.

The ACE setup for Michigan was able to give me a 234 mph (without much practice).
I would try ACE setup for the ovals, and ACE for road courses. The difference
being, to lower the shock settings considerable on the road courses. A friend
uses 0% shock settings at Laguna Seca...

I was watching taped coverage of a Formula Atlantic race from Laguna
Seca the other night and I was really impressed with the accuracy of
the scenery.  The programmers probably watched a lot of racing
coverage from each of the tracks.  

I'm still baffled at why they would put this much attention to detail
in there and then fudge the chicane at Portland so badly.

I discovered last night that the game appears to prevent you from
passing under yellow.  These are the kinds of things that you learn
when you're a danger to yourself and others.  So far the game doesn't
appear to have local yellows, only full course.  :/

I had my first shunt that was in no way, shape or form my fault last
night at Long Beach.  I was coming down the curved straight well to
the inside to let traffic by when Mark Smith pulled out to pass
another car right at the apex of the dogleg, forcing me into the
inside wall.

It was a proud moment for me.

Indeed yes, the question was what setup to use for a road track.  Being
from the other side of pond I call the ovals circuits :)  Obviously on
the ovals you're at top whack all the time so you want little drag (wings)
and little low end uumph.

I use the easy setup for each track while I'm learning its layout, noting
corners, speeds, etc, then move up to fast then ace then I fiddle with
the ace setting (to make it more forgiving!) ... it's a shame Papyrus didn't
code in a fly-by view of the track.  Either that or an in-car ride would
be nice.  F1GP lets you ride in any car at any point, I don't think Indy
lets you do that, or does it?  

The manual has brief hints on each track, but some sort of on-line
"tutorial" to each track/circuit would be nice, taking you round
suggesting speeds and gears and lines at relevant points.  A bit like
the fly-by with comment on a couple of PC golf games I've played.

Of course, this is just nitpicking on an otherwise very fun product.
I was also very impressed to get e-mail from a Papyrus programmer trying
to nail a bug in the replay load/save; never had that before :)
