Well I finally broke the bank and bought GPL (it was actually the LWFF
that broke the bank).

I'm a "veteran" of sims I guess you could say.  But I have kinda taken
a year off.  (Indy 500, ICR1, ICR2, GP1, GP2, SCGT, etc)

Any advice for GPL?  I think I am too used to driving a modern race
car because I find that I want to speed through the turns at 90-100MPH
at Mosport.  And you just can't do that!

Take this advice with a grain of salt because I am a newbie to racing sims
in general. My best advice in GPL at the beginning (I've been playing for 2
weeks now) is to be gentle with the throttle. Also, shortshift while you are
trying to learn the f1 cars. Also, don't worry about lap times at the
beginning, try to become consistent (this is my mantra to myself as I push
too hard to improve my PB and spin/crash). One thing I found helpful when I
started getting frustrated was to switch cars. In the end, it takes a lot of
practice. I've managed to get my PB at Watkins Glen from about 1:15 (once I
leveled off and could drive the track) to 1:07.20 (in the lotus) and 1:08.20
(in the Brab). Many people say Spa is a great place to learn but I like the
Glen because I get feedback quicker.

In light of my previous post to this group, I find your advice quite helpful
and valuable.

You've  definitely taken the right approach, Mr. Puck.  These are the most
important things to stick to....patience and gentleness.

Go to this site and use her Coventry setups. Turn off all aids, start in
the F3 cars.
 http://simracing.com/alison/gpl/
Give yourself a few weeks before expecting to turn a decent lap.
Go online as soon as you can drive where you want without crashing.
 http://www.vroc.net/html/common/winvroc.htm#flags
Make sure you read this before you race online.

There are over 200 GPL sites, let me know when you need any url's

I've been able to muck up a 69 second lap at the Glen.  I guess that
isn't too bad for having it 48 hours.  I used the Brabam because it
looked lightweight.  Kinda slow down the straights.  I think I managed
a 175MPH down the straights with the Honda/Murasamma.  Meanwhile only
168-170 with the Brabham.

I happen to enjoy the Honda/Murasamma car.  I don't know why.  I can
run a 70 second lap at the Glen pretty easilly with it.  But not more
than that :)
