Hi, Guys --

As the header suggests, I'm new to sim racing.  I still ask dumb questions (I
asked a beauty a week ago, and y'all were kind enough not to flame me.
Thanks).

I don't have the time many of you seem to devote to this.  I also have none of
the native gearheadedness that many of you seem to.  But I've gotten hooked on
the speed!

So, anyway.  I downloaded GPL back in April.  I could only run it with all the
detail off, and it still wasn't very smooth.  But that didn't stop me from
spending many hours jerking and lurching around Watkins Glen.  Then I gave it
up for a while.

So a week ago, I found a demo on a CD-ROM, and thought, "what the hell, I'll
install this version."  Oh, my God!  Now I understand what you've all been
raving about these months.

For reasons that elude my right-brainedness, I can run this copy of the sim
with full detail.  The color's a little washed out, but it's smooth as silk.
And, man, the smoothness is what counts.  After a couple of hours, I could run
pretty consistent laps in the 1:12s.  I'm still driving the Brabham because I
find the Lotus a little edgy, but now I'm experiencing the feeling of the car
that I hadn't before.

So, bring on the final version Sierra/Papyrus.  I'm ready to do a flaming endo
on another track!

Regards (with a little envy and admiration of gearheads),

Kurt

Glad that you have joined the club, Kurt :o)
It *IS* quite an amazing experience, isn't it?!
