From the DVD:

They used opposite-hand-drive cars, and gave a fake dash and wheel to the
actors.  The (rather brilliant) stunt driver flung the cars (and lucky
actors) through countless gorgeous 4-wheel drifts and handbrake turns.  I
can't get enough of the wrong-way part of that chase.

Sorry, am I rambling? <blushes>

It always ruins the effect when you notice the car is stripped out, or in a
flip scene when you can see the smoking hole in the bottom from where they
fired the "flipper".

I thought Driven was in that category of movies that are so bad they are
actually fun to watch.  It is indeed a terrible, terrible film, and no-one
should pay to see it (I saw it on a Qantas flight from Hong Kong to
Melbourne last month).  The street race in the cars, for example, is
ludicrous on so many levels.  It's in the vein of Days of Thunder: trite
dialogue, absurd plot, action that does not reflect reality in any way shape
or form.  Estella Warren looks pretty good.  Stallone looks about 20 years
too old to be driving an open-wheeler.  It's crap, but to the extent of
self-parody.

Charger Hub caps in Bullit? I think the count was 11, heh any Steve McQueen
Trivia fans know this? It's been awhile.
I saw the movie when it first came out in the theaters, first hilltop drop
away and your stomach was in your throat, great at the time nothing like it.

Another Great Chase Scene that rivaled Bullit at the time was the early to
mid 70's Original Classic "Gone In Sixty Seconds"
Where 93 cars were wreaked in a 40 minute chase scene, that was done mostly
on the open freeways in LA, in regular traffic!
The Digitally Re-mastered version of it was on Speedvision's Lost Drive in
about a couple a months ago. :-)
I hope that the new "Speed Channel" keeps Bruce Dern's Lost Drive In. It's
great to see those old classic Hot rod B movies from yester-year. "Hot Rods
to Hell" yup that's what corrupted my life. :-)

Lucky me I didn't see it.
For me, it was Bullit wich was(unfortunatly) the best. But since I got Ronin
on video. There is a new number one. Ronin.

Greetings

BBII was a total disgrace... :-(

However! The one thing that makes it worth watching is that cop car crash
seen. I laughed sooooo hard! I would compare it to Homer skateboarding off
the cliff.

... and then some.

I'm not exactly sure what a chase scene interior is, but if you mean how did
they shoot insides of the cars then - Mounted Cameras! Pryce nearly crapped
himself and McElhone took up racing. Franky wanted to do a good old
fashioned action flick and wrote off computers from the beginning.
Everything in the movie was staged using genuine theatrics and acrobatics. A
true masterpiece, I can't say enough about this film. Definitely in my top
ten. It's got it all, a plot, a story, writing, acting, directing, stunts,
locations, intrigue, and a silver case.

Ronin. :-) Great.

Yes, the chase from Ronin was superb too, but the funky music and
McQueen still keeps Bullit my favorite :)
PS You do know that the guy who made Roning, Frankenheimer, also made
the movie Grand Prix? And now for some bad news, his next movie will
be a prequel movie of The Exorcist, so no car chases I assume :)

For quality car chases, I'd suggest The French Conenction and To Live
and Die in L.A. are had to beat....

"The French Connection", good call, personally I liked "The Driver" and
"Shaker Run", both pretty obscure movies with little in the way of a
good story, but the driving was was good :-)

Beers and cheers

Yes. That music is good too. In concept Bullit and Ronin are almost
identical. Good script, good actors, good music and above all realistic good
action (OK I am a little bit exaggerated).
Why didn't Sly hire Frankenheimer. Or even better. Why didn't or maybe he's
doing it in the near future Bernie Ecclestone hire Frankenheimer. too make
the movie Grand Prix again. But then better. Unfortunatly we can't ask Steve
McQueen anymore. Or both too make it.

Greetings

Olaf

A new F1 movie from Frankenheimer would be superb.. only let him do
the car scenes and let someone else write the dialogs..
Or even better, skip the dialogs and let Frankenheimer show us 2 hours
of racing :)

PS The best racing action ever put on film is a short movie from
Peugeot, where you see Vitanen climbing Pikes Peak (spelling?)
I watched it again yesterday for the zillionth time, it's absolutely
amazing what he is doing.. and totally crazy too :)
It's on the net somewhere.. or perhaps you can find it with
Morphieus.. Or if someone has a big upload space I'd be happy to
upload it, from memory it's around 40-50mb.

Wow, thank YOU for that site! Lots of great racingvideos there!

Great eh :) And I swear you, next time you're driving your car in real
life, you'll subconsiously start humming that piano tune :)

Too much info there :)
